Freaky Friday (2003) / Freaky Friday (1976)

Freaky Friday is a moniker that everyone from Baby boomers to Gen Z should recognize, and not only for its catchy title. This is because the story has existed in two dominant iterations, with major actresses Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster in the 1976 original, and household names Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in the 2003 remake. The plot is the same in both: an overworked mother and her rebellious daughter switch bodies by some fluke, learning about the hardships the other endures and strengthening their relationship in the process. In this case the remake beats out its predecessor simply because of the era it was released. The 1976 version showcases Mrs. Andrews (Harris) as a typical housewife who exists at her husband's beck and call. On the contrary, Jamie Lee Curtis' character is a successful psychiatrist who is set to get married in the coming weeks. Jodie Foster plays a tomboyish Annabel in the original while Lindsay Lohan plays a more mature version of the character who really represents the early 2000s. Regardless, this one is open to interpretation because it may very well come down to personal preference and the era you were born in.
