The 13th Warrior (1999)

This late '90s misfire is perhaps one of the more interesting cases of extensive reshoots. Directed by prolific action director John McTiernan (Die Hard, Predator), adapting a novel from Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park), and starring a then on-the-rise Antonio Banderas, The 13th Warrior had all the makings of being the next big blockbuster. However, initial test screenings of the film, then titled Eaters of the Dead, were poorly received, leading to Michael Crichton taking over as director for the reshoots. Unfortunately, Crichton's reshoots did little to improve the movie, as it performed extremely poorly at the box office. The production budget had ballooned to well over $100 million and including marketing, the movie was rumored to have a finished cost around $160 million, further adding insult to injury.
