Avengers: Infinity War (2018) – $678.8M

Following Captain America: Civil War, anticipation for a third Avengers reached fever pitch as it promised the culmination of 10 plus years of Marvel films, all coming together for one massive conclusion. The promise of team ups between characters across all of Marvel Studios’ various projects was the major selling point of the film and it did not disappoint. The film edged out Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ previous opening weekend record of $247 million with $257 million of its own, but it surprisingly lost steam towards the end of its run, coming up short behind Marvel’s Black Panther, which released a few months earlier. All in all, Infinity War became the fourth film to pass the $2 billion mark worldwide after Titanic, Avatar, and aforementioned The Force Awakens.
