Bringing together loud mouth LAPD Officer Carter (Chris Tucker) and Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) of China is the case that neither of them can seem to walk away from. When the Chinese Consul’s daughter, Soo Yung, is taken by crime lord Juntao after their move to Los Angeles, the Consul calls on Lee to help find her. Not trusting the FBI, and America wanting their own man on the case, Carter is also brought in and the two could not be more opposite. Carter, a cocky, work-alone cop, operates on a ‘my way or the highway’ wavelength, while Lee is more the silent type, with an outstanding amount of martial arts skill. After a few bumps in the road, the two use their differences to build off of each other in an attempt to meet their common goal.
