The entire cast – The Joy Luck Club (1993)

We couldn't celebrate all-Asian casts in films like Crazy Rich Asians or The Farewell today if not for this film that came out 27 years ago. Wayne Wang's film adaptation of the Amy Tan novel is the benchmark for Asian representation in Hollywood films. Its importance cannot be understated, but it wouldn't have been possible without its stellar cast. From the four mothers (Kieu Chinh, Tsai Chin, France Nuyen, Lisa Lu) to the four daughters (Tamlyn Tomita, Ming-na Wen, Rosalind Chao, Lauren Tom) the film wasn't just a showcase of already established talents, but also a launching pad for up-and-comers. It is a gem that was years ahead of its time and it's a shame it took 25 years for another all-Asian production to be met with the same level of praise.
