Russell Brand to host 2012 MTV Movie Awards

The MTV Movie Awards will experience a British invasion. Comedian Russell Brand has been announced as the host of the 2012 Movie Awards, an award show that celebrates the best in mainstream cinema. This will be Brand’s third time emceeing for the network after he hosted the Video Music Awards back-to-back in 2008 and 2009. “The MTV Movie Awards incorporates two of my favorite things: movies and awards,” joked Brand in a statement to MTV. This is expected to be a very transitional year for the golden popcorn awards, last month the network announced major changes would be made to the annual telecast in an effort to add some credibility to the show. Instead of the traditional fan voting system that presented Twilight with an overwhelming number of awards in recent years, an academy of actors, producers, and industry experts were put together to decide who ultimately goes home with that coveted golden popcorn. The event is expected to be a star-studded occasion. Charlize Theron, Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Chris Hemsworth and Mila Kunis are all scheduled to present and The Hunger Games leads the pack with the most nominations. The award show airs June 3 on MTV. ~Kyle Sharp
