Russian filmmakers killed shooting documentary in Africa

Alexander Rastorguev, Kirill Radchenko and Orhan Dzhemal Filmmaker Alexander Rastorguev, cameraman Kirill Radchenko and reporter Orhan Dzhemal were shooting a documentary about Russian mercenaries in the Central African Republic when they were killed.

Their bodies were found outside the city of Sibut, according to the Russian foreign ministry.

Director Rastorguev, who was known for documentaries that were openly critical of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s regime, was making a documentary about the Russian military firm Wagner, for the investigative journalism organization The Center for Investigation. The Center is a news organization funded by exiled oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a vocal Putin critic.

The Wagner group is an organization of private military contractors who are believed to have carried out clandestine military operations in Syria and East Ukraine, as ordered by the Kremlin, although Russian authorities deny it.

Reuters quoted Sibut’s mayor, Henri Depele, as saying the three Russians were surrounded by armed men who opened fire on their vehicle. Some reports are suggesting may have been a robbery attempt, but because there was a driver who survived the attack — and who was able to tell authorities what happened — it seems more likely that this was a targeted killing.

Putin is a very dangerous man. I remember when a former Russian spy and his daughter, who were living in Britain, collapsed after a nerve agent was thrown on them while they were sitting on a public bench, because Putin wanted to get rid of him. And that’s just a minor incident, Putin has had many, many Russians killed who don’t believe in his policies.

When I first heard Putin was KGB, years ago, I knew we were in trouble with Russia – again. And Trump favours this guy! Here’s hoping the US government as a whole keeps him OUT in September, because, of course, September is before November. If we make it through September …

Russia’s Putin is just a long line of power hungry strongmen who will go to endless lengths to silence opposition. Today we have the Philippines’ Duarte and even Trump who down play an opposition as being fake news; Duarte just goes the extra kilometres and has opposition summarily jailed or executed.
    SAD

I would wait for more details until we can say who was definitely behind the killings. They were driving through a war torn area in Africa which is one of the ten poorest nations in the world. Even the rich backer of this documentary hasn’t pointed his finger at the Kremlin yet, and he is very critical of Putin. Some of you are jumping to conclusions a little too soon. Could it be Russia’s gov’t behind it? Sure. It also could have been a robbery in a cesspool of a country.

    This is tragic.
It shows, that Central Africa is a dangerous place to visit as a tourist.
These guys violated curfew, traveling at night without any security protection.
Considering local driver survived, he might be member of the gang.
Putin must be busy with other more important things, like mid-term elections in US.

    Putin and Trump,both are scum.

From Fox News….Trump’s Friend and Ally

“The journalists allegedly traveled to the country to film a documentary on Wagner, the private security company. The reporters were collaborating with an investigative media project on a story titled “Russian Mercenaries.”
The Guardian reported Maxim Borodin, a Russian journalist, was killed earlier this year after falling to his death from a balcony. Borodin was allegedly also investigating Wagner before his death.
“It’s impossible to believe this, but there is already no hope that this is a mistake,” the IMC said in a statement.””

if trump is truly scum, as you suggest, then so are 90% of the men and women that I know.
You must be infallible to have the right to make such an assertion. Do you have any sins that you are not proud of?

  16. Carolyn • August 3, 2018 @ 4:11 PM

    Haven’t you heard of.
Keep you friends close, but your enemies closer? That’s what Trump is doing.
Have faith in your President. He didn’t get where he was before becoming President by being someone’s “poodle”. Like B. Hussein Obama was. Nice boy. Now sit!

Lol Wayne Maude I was thinking the same thing…

  18. Tracy • August 4, 2018 @ 12:18 PM

Carolyn – you are yet another example of a delusional Trump supporter. Blind, deaf and obviously dumb. THAT’S how that idiot made it to office.

  19. Cleona • August 4, 2018 @ 1:16 PM

Tracy-the”idiot” didn’t turn his back on Muslims in Syria while Obama left hundreds of thousands to be killed and displaced! Nor the Ukraine. Yes Putin’s a thug but so was Obama responsible for mass murders in Iraq Syria and Middle East especially. And now backing racist in South Africa killing white people I’m taking their land.!

Wow, haters will hate. Democrats havent changed since they started up the KKK and devided our nation in hate rhetoric. Putins a bad guy, Kim in – bad guy. Best way to war is lock them out and hate as haters do. Trump is a genius, a jerk, pompous, yea but he is genuine. He says what he feels. On the other hand Obamas, Clinton and other machine operators have all you sheep believing their lies. Tisk tisk it reminds me of the man who had his family in a life raft. Seen a poor porcupine swimming by. He was just out for a swim but the man knew best. Brought him in the raft. Story ends with all drowning and porky swimming off.
Not my family, we will live. Porky will live. Cant fight God. God has a plan

  21. Nicole • August 5, 2018 @ 11:04 PM

I think Putin should be careful. He’s so obviously behind many of these killings. He’s the only one with motive. I hope he’s caught for crimes against humanity one day and has to stand trial in the HAgue.
