That Awkward Moment Blu-ray/DVD review

That Awkward Moment delves into the lives of three buddies in their 20s – Jason (Zac Efron), Daniel (Miles Teller) and Mikey (Michael B. Jordan). Jason and Daniel work together designing book covers, while Mikey is a doctor grieving about his recent divorce. Rallying to support their brokenhearted friend, Jason and Daniel vow to remain single along with Mikey. Things, however, don’t go as planned when Jason falls for Ellie (Imogen Poots) and Daniel takes his friendship with Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis) to another level. Mikey, the most sensitive of the trio, tries to win back his wife, despite the fact that she’s no longer in love with him. The commitment-phobic friends try to enjoy the single life with drinking and one-night stands, but how long can they keep this up?

This film combines crude humor, a sprinkle of romance and a whole lot of bromance. It certainly has its fair share of laughs but falls short of being a successful romcom. Zac Efron, quite effortlessly, plays his trademark High School Musical-type character to perfection. As a bachelor in his 20s in real life, he easily plays the role onscreen. Miles Teller was downright hilarious, bringing out a different side as compared to his role in The Spectacular Now. Michael B. Jordan and Imogen Poots bring their A-game to the table and, along with Zac and Miles, help make this comedy work. This movie will likely be appreciated most by audiences in their 20s and 30s who enjoy watching a raunchy comedy with friends.

Extended Blu-ray features include Extended Gag Reel, Behind the Scenes, More Awkward Moments and Meet Daniel, Ellie, Jason and Mikey. Other films releasing on Blu-ray/DVD this week are Her, I, Frankenstein and Stalingrad. For a full list of this week’s home releases, click here. ~Marriska Fernandes
