The Equalizer 3 blasts away weekend box office competition

The Equalizer 3 starring Denzel Washington as retired government assassin, Robert McCall, debuted at the top of the weekend box office, earning an impressive total of $34.5 million.

Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, held onto second yet again, earning an additional $10.6 million for a domestic seven-week total of $609.5 million. It has now surpassed The Super Mario Bros. Movie to win the distinction of highest-grossing worldwide release of the year with $1.36 billion.

Blue Beetle, starring Cobra Kai’Xolo Maridueña, held onto third as the film earned an extra $7.3 million for a three-week total of $56.6 million.

Last weekend’s box office champ, Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story starring Archie Madekwe as an aspiring teenage race car driver, dropped three places to fourth. It took in an additional $6.6 million for a two-week total of $28.7 million.

Dropping a spot was Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy, earning $5.5 million more for a seven-week take of $308.6 million. ~Alexandra Heilbron
