Three new releases dominated the box office this weekend and knocked out the competition to secure a place on our top five list. Check out all the films that made the list this weekend – September 14 to 16, 2018!
Sci-fi thriller The Predator starring Boyd Holbrook and Sterling K. Brown delighted audiences and took over top spot in its opening weekend, earning $24 million. This sequel to the 1987 hit Predator sees a group of ex-soldiers band together to protect the human race against the threat of deadly extraterrestrial warriors.
The horror film The Nun fell into second place but is still going strong, raking in an additional $18.2 million for a domestic total of $85.1 million in its second week.
Another newcomer made its debut in the top five – A Simple Favor, starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, thrilled audiences and sneaked onto the list with $16.1 million in its first week, earning a spot in third place.
White Boy Rick earned $8.8 million in its weekend theatrical debut and came in at fourth place. The film, starring Matthew McConaughey and Richie Merritt, is based on the true story of teenage drug dealer-turned-FBI informant Richard Wershe.
Audiences are still raving over Crazy Rich Asians. The romantic comedy starring Constance Wu and Henry Golding earned an additional $8.7 million in its fifth week, bringing its domestic total to $149.6 million.
