Tyra Banks takes stand against alleged stalker

By Alexandra Heilbron on April 30, 2009 | 47 Comments

Tyra Banks/Stalker Brady GreenTyra Banks testified in court against Brady Green, 39, a Georgia native accused of stalking her. Green’s defense lawyer Sydney O’Hagan doesn’t deny his client’s attempts to get close to Banks, but claims he’s just a fan who was trying to get tickets to The Tyra Banks Show. “She invites fans that are inspired by her show to reach out to her,” O’Hagan said in court. “Mr. Green was a fan, albeit perhaps an overzealous fan.” Overzealous, or insane? Prosecutors report that Green sent love letters and flowers to Banks and ignored police requests to stay away from the show. He threatened to kill an employee who refused to give him the show’s address, screaming, “You’re f—ing lying, I’m going to find you and slit your throat!” Green was already arrested on March 18, 2008 for sneaking into Banks’ studio, after which he told police, “I’ve got satellites watching me and recording us.” Banks was the first witness to take the stand in the trial, and said she has been forced to hire security. “I don’t fear for my life, I fear for my safety,” she said. “I fear for my staff and people in my vicinity.” Green faces 90 days in jail if convicted. ~Meryl H.

See, this is exactly what I mean. The police have been involved how many times now? He’s been given warnings, he’s threatened to “slit” throats, he’s scared the hell outta this women and her staff…and IF convicted, he only faces 90 days????????????????? Stupid laws! They ALL need a good overhauling!

    Sorry, “woman”.

    PLz nancy
i mean no offence to u
but once a while us users come to read what’s happeing in hollywood and honestly i’m sick and tired of seeing your non sensne comments
So do us a favour and keep it to yourself if you dont have anything useful to say.

  4. Nancy • April 30, 2009 @ 2:23 PM

Oh, I see your using a different name today! I believe my comment is more “useful” that yours…LMFAO! Oh, and I “DO” mean offence to you…INSTIGATOR.

  5. tributegirl • April 30, 2009 @ 4:47 PM

“seriously”, if you don’t like the comments, don’t read them, it’s that simple. Your comment was in no way useful, you realize.
I find it very frustrating when people who are a danger to society are given a slap on the wrist. I know the police work really hard to make sure their investigations are thorough and everything, but then the courts take over and let us all down.

  6. pete • April 30, 2009 @ 5:02 PM

Why do some people see issues as black and white all the time? Nancy, in a previous article, said that cutting off a person’s hand was a good punishment (sorry, can’t remember what the crime was.) And tributegirl, do you really think that locking this guy up will do any good? For one thing, it really isn’t clear that he is a danger to society — lots of people threaten violence, but never carry through. And if he really said that there are satellites watching and recording him, there is a possibility of mental health issues.

There is a precarious balance of personal rights, protection of society, protection of the individual, and compassion. Unfortunately, the right decisions are not always made, but to automatically “lock up” someone for a long period of time is not the answer. That is why we have criminal justice and healthcare systems — to hopefully make the best choice given all the circumstances. It might take a long time, it might be frustrating, it might even sometimes be wrong, but it is a process that is necessary in a free society.

  7. moon • April 30, 2009 @ 8:04 PM

pity….. and after 90 days he gonna be back doin what he was doing before.

  8. Carol • April 30, 2009 @ 8:05 PM

So, what did Nancy say that was so wrong…Seriously, get a grip.

The laws in Canada and the USA stink…as much as I can’t stand Martha Stewart, she got more time for what she did than this guy stands to serve. A bit backwards if you ask me.

But seriously, I’m sure you aren’t asking me.

  9. Nancy • May 1, 2009 @ 9:40 AM

Sure pete, when I suggested cutting off the hand of those who steal (it was on an article where another poster spoke of the guy who had just stolen her van), I may have been a bit harsh, but my meaning was that the laws are too lenient…WAY too lenient! I don’t steal. Why should I and others like me have to constantly pay for those who do? Higher prices in the stores, higher insurance premiums, damn cameras watching our every move. As far as I’m concerned, us “law-abiding” citizens have lost our “rights” and the criminals just run around doing whatever in the hell they want to whomever they want…and at the end of the day, when the police arrive (because the police have to write everything down), the criminal says something that’s off the wall and then cries insanity in court and gets a slap on the wrist…and “90 days”. Yeah, justice is served!

  10. Jo-Anne • May 1, 2009 @ 10:12 AM

    agree, pete…

  11. Monique • May 1, 2009 @ 11:54 AM

I just think Tyra should go FIERCE on his butt LOL

  12. Nancy • May 1, 2009 @ 12:18 PM

She might as well just ‘get rid of him’…if you know what I mean. Hey, she might get 90 days for it!! If she behaves in jail, she’ll be out in 60. 😛

  13. Nancy • May 1, 2009 @ 12:21 PM

Better yet, because of her job…she’d only get weekends. Go in Fri. night and get out first thing Mon. morning…considered 4 days served.

  14. Anon • May 1, 2009 @ 5:36 PM

    pete on April 30, 2009 5:02 PM

Agree as well. And it was my vehicle that stolen. And I also stated that the kid that stole my van could possibly be doing these crimes out of need. A jail sentence in his case would do nothing but fine tune his skills, ignoring the real problem of the lack of guidance and support at home. Other intervention would be more appropriate….as in this situation it is obvious that mental health is an issue and incarceration would not serve as a deterrent. You cant punish if you cant reason with someone. Why . . . . . it would be somewhat like debating with Nancy! To even imply that we regress in our judicial system, well I wont even go there. No time today to be dealing with Nancys relentless copying / pasting trying to prove me wrong and eat my words.

  15. Nancy • May 1, 2009 @ 6:17 PM

Then shut up about me! Plain and simple. I gave my opinion and never mentioned you and how screwed I think your opinions are, so why do you have to mention me in your opinion? But, seeing as you want to go there….maybe your van being stolen is more YOUR fault than his, huh? Was it locked? Did you leave the keys in it? Leave it running perhaps? Because people like that should be punished too as far as I’m concerned. I’m sick of paying high insurance premiums because of people like that! I’ve never had an accident or any kind of a claim in my life…not even a speeding ticket but yet, my premiums are what I consider to be high because of others stupidity!

  16. tributegirl • May 1, 2009 @ 6:18 PM

Awww, anon, please don’t get all that started again!

pete, yes, I do think locking him up would do some good, it would make the victim in the situation feel much safer, she would probably actually BE much safer. I don’t necessarily mean stick him in a jail, if mental health issues are the problem (which I suspect they are), then he should be somewhere where he can get help, and not be a potential danger to Tyra or whoever else he may hurt. I know that lots of people threaten violence and never carry it out, but lots DO carry it out.

  17. Nancy • May 1, 2009 @ 6:23 PM

That’s the problem with the world…dick heads like pete, Jo-Anne and Anon/Gina are in there making sure that all the poor criminals don’t have their rights taken away…meanwhile the rest of us pay out the @$$ and are on camera 24/7!!

  18. Anon • May 1, 2009 @ 10:00 PM

    Nancy on May 1, 2009 6:17 PM

Van wasnt running and didnt leave the keys in the car. Sorry to disappoint but it wasnt more my fault. And to make matters worse, I bought a 07 Ford Escape and someone took the cross bars off my roof rack, jerks. Now that one wasnt a kid Im sure; some low life that wanted an extra set. Or maybe its karma for being such a dickhead. lol I did happen to find out who stole my van; they were selling the office supplies I had in there on Kijiji classifieds. So you can rest assured, he will be punished though because of my claim, you probably won’t save those few cents on next years renewal.

  19. mandee • May 1, 2009 @ 11:35 PM

im wondering exactly how joanne became a “dickhead” for simply agreeing with pete? sometimes, you make me really confused nancy. anyways, on the topic, i do agree that 90 days is not a proper sentence for uttering death threats, stalking someone and refusing to listen to police, as well as sneaking into (what i guess we could call private property since its tyras studio??). i really do not think the law is protecting the innocent anywhere near as well as it should. perhaps everyone should start carrying their own gun, pepper spray, handcuffs etc for just in case things like this happen and get out of control? if the cops arent willing to protect us, then we should be allowed to protect ourselves. especially if you would only get 90 days in jail, what have we got to lose?

  20. mandee • May 1, 2009 @ 11:36 PM

oops and ps : seriously on April 30, 2009 12:06 PM i have no idea what youre talking about, nancys nonsense comments. i completely agreed with her comments, and its pretty obvious i wasnt the only one.

  21. Anon • May 2, 2009 @ 7:45 AM

Nothing to do with the topic at hand, but I’ve just read (WHO website) that cases have doubled. I was talking to tributegirl on another topic and we both thought it would be a good idea if we all kept each other posted on how we’re all doing, ie feeling sick, any symptoms so we can not only hear first hand how bad or mild it can be but to keep up on each others well being. As much as we can at times get on each others nerves and cant stand some of the comments / opinions, I think we pretty much all enjoy and like each other. or we wouldnt bother coming back everyday.

I dont know who talks to who off Tribute, but has anyone heard from Jim?

Anon(blue), this is totally true and very well said. Im kinda new on this site compared to some of you but I was wondering about Jim too and also a nice guy named Nat who used to post here.

Pretty much true. I sometimes feel bad after I’ve given Nancy a hard time for her closed minded, crass and vulgar attitude, but I really can’t stay away from her lol Im drawn to her and look for her comments in particular and ALWAYS try, actually do, nail her to the cross! Hahaha She adds a certain spice to the conversation and good ole faithful, continuously comes back for more.a true masochist! Sadly, she just doesnt seem to realize that the leash only goes so far and try, as you will, well what more can I say.

Yes, I’ve been wondering about Jim and now that you mention it, I haven’t seen any comments from Nat either.

  25. Nancy • May 2, 2009 @ 5:34 PM

YOU nail ME to the cross? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! At least I’m not forced to “eat my words”. I don’t say sh!t about people that I can’t back up. As for coming back for more….so do you…and everyone else on here, for that matter! Don’t act like you’re better than me in some way, that you’ve got me cornered and I’m your little puppet…because you’re sadly mistaken.

    As for nat…good riddance!

Nancy, you should realize insurance companies are crooks too. Instead of determining premiums on an individual basis (like they should), they calculate on a collective basis. It’s an unfair practice, and nothing short of a scam.
I can tell you multiple disputes/dealings I’ve had with them over the years. Trust me when I tell you they stand to lose NOTHING. They are the main reason why I’m not driving today. And I’ve always had a clean driving record too!

  27. Nancy • May 3, 2009 @ 6:22 PM

I don’t doubt it one bit, demigod and I do realize it. I mean you pay more for insurance if you’re under a certain age, more if you’re a guy, less if you’re married, etc. Meanwhile, none of that has ANY bearing on how good of a driver you are or if you will have any “accidents” or claims. Then of course, you pull into the corner store as I have before…and there is a car sitting there running, windows down, baby in a car seat in the back, purse on the front seat, no one else in the car at all, and the car owner/child’s mother is in the store.

  28. tributegirl • May 3, 2009 @ 7:05 PM

A woman I know found a car like that once, Nancy, she waited around until the mother came back, and verbally tore a strip off her. The mother was really mad, but I hope it shook her up enough to smarten her up.

I’m sick of the insurance companies as well and I work in the industry! I’ve made one claim just recently, had one ticket and I still pay through the nose. Oh excuse me, they cut me some slack for 30yrs driving, big deal. I’m paying just shy of what a friend of mine pays that commutes (2hrs one way) and drives an 09 honda. I own a 07 ford escape and drive 2 blocks to work. No fairness in this industry.

  32. Nancy • May 4, 2009 @ 9:28 AM

A few cents here, a few cents there…it all adds up. It p’s those people off who drive carefully and work hard to keep a clean driving record and yet open their letter of renewal, only to find out their insurance went up. My dad has never had a claim or ticket or anything either but yet, his insurance goes up every year. A couple years ago he got mad and called them up and asked why it keeps going up. You know what their answer was? “Well, the price of body metal went up.” He asked what that had to do with him, that he didn’t have any body work done and they replied that everyone had to pay for it. Like I said, I’m sick of paying for others stupidity….insurance is only one of the many ways people can be stupid and the rest of us have to pay for it. Don’t even get me started on that stupid gun registry! LOL.

  33. Jim • May 4, 2009 @ 9:55 AM

Sorry I haven’t commented in so long. To be honest I haven’t even opened this article because I wasn’t interested in the subject at hand and as for the others, I didn’t have anything to say so I stayed out of it. I didn’t realize that I was involved in the comments on this one and feel terrible that everyone was waiting for me to respond. Thanks for all of your concern. I really appreciate it and I totally agree with lily and Anon. As much as we disagree and bicker, obviously there is something in us that is alike because we all come back to this website day in and day out.
Having said that, both mine and my wife’s results came back and luckily we both tested negative. Aside from a common cold that has now subsided we are both good to go. Thankfully we are fine and our trip to Mexico was not a disaster waiting to happen. The crazy thing is that we did not hear anything about this epidemic before we left and nothing while we were there. It wasn’t until we came home which I am thankful for as well. It may sound crazy of me but I would have been terrified if I knew while there and having known before hand would have caused me great concern and would have possibly resulted in us canceling. I feel for anyone who has a trip booked. That is a hard decision to make because realistically the Mayan Riveria is 2500 KM away from where the outbreak occurred. Would that be too much to risk or is that far enough? I know what my answer would be but I am sure others contemplate going and just “risking” it. I have two daughters and a wife so that is way to much to “risk” if you ask me.

Well, the price of body metal went up.

???? That makes no sense. It would be the opposite. If the price of metal drops, the rates would go up, as their returns would be lower for total losses. With the insurance companies its only about their returns. But, on the flip side, it the price of metal goes up, we pay more for our cars therefore the payouts from Insurance companies is higher as well .Which just goes to show you that we are screwed no matter what!!

Glad to hear you are all okay, had me worried!

  36. Nancy • May 4, 2009 @ 2:02 PM

Well, that’s what they said. I don’t know what they go by..?? Mostly, I think they just make it up as they go, LOL. So, when the price of metal goes up to fix the vehicles which were in accidents that people are claiming, you’re saying premiums wouldn’t go up…that they would only increase premiums if the price of the metal went down? Now THAT makes no sense!

  37. Nancy • May 4, 2009 @ 2:06 PM

Ok, I believe we are thinking the same way just from different sides of the fence, LOL. You’re looking at the price of metal in general and from the insurance point of view and I’m looking at the cost to the consumer from the garage to pay to fix the vehicles…of body metal. I see it as the price going up and the insurance companies see it as going down. Hahaha. Kinda like banking….@$$ backwards!

I had a fantastic time mandee. Thanks for asking. The weather was fantastic and my wife and I finally spent some much needed quality alone time together which was what we went for. Don’t get me wrong; we love our kids and love spending time with them but an “adults only” vacation was needed. Too much running to hockey, baseball, gymnastics and then homework and bath time at night. Before we both knew it we realized we weren’t even sharing important events from our days, let alone enjoying each other. We have now decided that it will be one week a year no matter what. We don’t care what we can afford we are still going to spend a week alone a year. Of course we will still have our family vacations but Mom and Dad need a vacation too every once in awhile!!

lol See my opinions are not that screwed up.

Personally, if my vehicle was in an accident or (like recently) was a theft recovery, I wouldn’t want it back. I was VERY lucky that they wrote my vehicle off as a total loss. They recovered it the next day and when I went to clear out my personals I didn’t see any damage other than the door lock and ignition; and I went over it very thoroughly. Im sorry to lose the office supplies and personal belongings, but not the van. Who knows what kind of mechanical damage they could have done that would have shown up months later. Besides, it was a comprehensive (theft) so my premiums stay the same. Maybe they’ll raise yours to cover the cost of my claim. hahaha

I know what its like to get caught up in the hussle and bussle of family life. And the easiest person to put on the back burner is our spouses. Kids end up comsumming all our energy and time even our precious nights if your family is the musical beds type. Lol Im not complaining though; I pretty much loved every minute of it, even when I slept on the couch just so I could have a bed of my own! And here I am now after years of sleepless nights and I’m not allowed so much as to step into their rooms. They would be horrified if I slept in their beds!
