Will actors go on strike next?

By Alexandra Heilbron on July 11, 2008 | 31 Comments

strike.jpgJust months after the writers strike, an actors strike is a looming possibility in Hollywood. The possible strike has studios rushing to finish production on their movies; but films that are now shooting, including Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and Tom HanksAngels & Demons would be forced to shut down production until contracts are resolved. The contract between the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers expired last week, and negotiations for a new contract are making little headway. The strike would also affect the Fall TV lineup as SAG accounts for about 90 percent of TV production. According to msn.com, if the actors strike is anything like the writers strike, it could cost Hollywood $2.5 billion in lost wages and other revenue.

haha, this is too funny. Heres an idea forget all the overpaid and find some new talent!

Agreed. Getting paid millions for one movie that might inconvience their Hollywood lives for a few months out of a year is insane. No wonder so many people pirate movies, imagine how much money they’d be making if people didn’t pirate?

Hrrmmm, will this mean they will need some new actors who will work for less out there? Sign me up!

No really, hopefully we’ll see a lot more of the open YouTube type of casting because of this.

You’re joking right. Actors going on strike?! Yeah, like that would be the end of the world. No more people who get paid for looking pretty making $20 million per film while whole countries starve from poverty. Get real.

I’m not worried about the big name actors that could probably use the break, but what about all the crews who aren’t big names that don’t get the big salary, that’s who it hurts. and the viewing public, the crap they rushed out after the writers strike is proof of that. How come a group of (we hope) reasonable adults can’t plan these well in advance, I mean they know when the contracts are expiring why not look after it 6 months ago

A striking union is no joke and the actors are no different. How many actors get paid 20 million?? 2… 4 maybe. If there is a strike it will be about the extras and charater actors getting a fair contract, not Tom Cruise. If you want to look for a majority of over paid people look at sports pros!

I agree with Tracey – on average, actors do not make very much money and most have to get second jobs to support themselves. As much as I have a hard time with strikes and unions, I am more in support of the actors and their reason for striking than I was for the writers. That strike was just ridiculous!

This is a joke. As the above guy said, find some new talent that will work for far less. Sorry but I rarely go to the theatre now because the prices are insane, as are the new DVD releases. Must be rough making a few million dollars for a couple months of work. Try working fulltime making enough just to get by in REAL LIFE.

that’s just stupid. you know what? GET OEVR IT GUYS! you’re all overpaid anyways. I’d be gratefull to even make half of what you guys make… I get that you want to be paid for every copy that is made of certain movies and TV shows and stuff, but pick your battles. the writer’s strike just happened, wait awhile before you just strike all over again. You guys are killing Hollywood…

Wow. An actors strike. I mean with the writers it wasnt bad but with the actors im really pissed off. Theyr probably just doin it to get attention cause theyr so stubborn. If they arent satisfied with ALL the money they get, they should quit and get better jobs like normal people would.

  11. tributegirl • July 11, 2008 @ 2:33 PM

Robin, Tracey, I totally agree. I also think that it would be nice to see some new talent.

  12. tammy • July 11, 2008 @ 2:34 PM

God damn it now I have to wait even longer to see Transformers 2 and I’ve been waiting to see Angels and Demons ever since The Davinci Code came out…the book was amazing…

  13. tributegirl • July 11, 2008 @ 2:58 PM

    I STILL haven’t read it!

  14. Nancy • July 11, 2008 @ 7:39 PM

Movies…I don’t care much but, they just better not mess with my favourite shows. Jeeze, they’re just bringing Dog The Bounty Hunter back…FINALLY! They better not screw it up!

  15. joe • July 12, 2008 @ 6:32 AM

You can Hire me I will work for 13 dollars an hour and will not nag and Complain or go on strike.

  16. Jo-Anne • July 12, 2008 @ 9:07 AM

there’s new talent arriving constantly in show business

And for those who believe ALL actors are making millions, why the hell don’t they become an actor??? I mean, if you feel it’s that simple?? Go for it.

  17. Tayderhead • July 12, 2008 @ 12:13 PM

Dog the Bounty Hunter. Ya that sounds like Nancy’s type of show. Why doesn’t that surprise me?

  18. Jo-Anne • July 12, 2008 @ 2:53 PM

but the important question is, Tayderhead, have you clicked on her name…ha ha ha ha ha
    she’s so yesterday

  19. Nancy • July 12, 2008 @ 5:21 PM

Sure, I have to admit that I do like reality tv…and Big Brother 10 starts tomorrow night! Can’t wait! Better than watching all that made up CRAP such as, hmmmmmm…..The Office!! Right Jo? Isn’t that one of your favourites?

    Click my name, Jo! LMAO

  20. Jo-Anne • July 12, 2008 @ 6:10 PM

yeah, I do love The Office, and since you’re obviously interested in my picks, I love Extras, Arrested Development, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck…among others.

Despise Big Brother and all reality T.V.

am less than surprised it’s your favourite.

  21. Nancy • July 12, 2008 @ 6:27 PM

Actually Jo, I’m not interested in your picks…THEY SUCK! It doesn’t matter what someone such as yourself and someone named ‘Taterhead’ think of the shows I watch…when you pay me the $3500 I paid for my plasma, maybe then I’ll let you tell me what to watch but, don’t hold your breath! So, until hell freezes over it’s Big Brother, Dog and Survivor!

Click my name, Jo…you’ll like this one! LOL

  22. Tayderhead • July 12, 2008 @ 7:03 PM

I didn’t know a plasma that size could fit into a trailer.

  23. Jo-Anne • July 12, 2008 @ 8:24 PM

    You rock, Tayderhead

  24. tributegirl • July 12, 2008 @ 8:34 PM

I love Survivor! I didn’t know you watched that, Nancy! Anyone else on here a Survivor fan?

  25. Nancy • July 12, 2008 @ 9:43 PM

Hey there, Tributegirl! How are ya?

  26. tributegirl • July 12, 2008 @ 9:57 PM

Hey Nancy! So you like Survivor too huh?
Oops! Sorry, here let me wipe up that drool!

  27. Kara • July 14, 2008 @ 9:57 AM

i really hope the actors don’t strike i will miss my favorite show One Tree Hill and i am really looking forward to the new Star Trek movie and really hope that isn’t delayed

and i think if the actors strike goes through than tv companies might shut down, so i pray that they don’t because of the little guys that work there that would be let go you know the guy who is working his ass off to put food on his families plate.

  28. tammy • July 14, 2008 @ 11:58 AM

Tayterhead and Jo-Anne I’m so glad that it’s not just myself and Jennie that think Nancy and tributegirl but mostly Nancy is a little child that just needs to quit it and let it go cause obviously it’s not hurting anyones feeling except hers…tributegirl were you making fun of me for reading these books or were you actually being sensere in saying that you just haven’t read them…

  29. tributegirl • July 15, 2008 @ 4:19 PM

Nancy is right, it had seemed to come to an end, then Jo-Anne forced it back.
tammy, I was being totally sincere, my sister has that book, I am going to borrow it from her, just haven’t yet.

  30. Rachael • July 15, 2008 @ 7:56 PM

Aha. Who needs Transformers 2 and Da Vinci Code 2 anyway? But another writers strike is stupid.

  31. tammy • July 16, 2008 @ 3:51 PM

um it’s not Da Vinci Code 2 it’s Angels and Demons totally different stories and movies…and it’s not that I need but I want to see and I’m sure alot of people want to see Transformers 2…
