Reese WitherspoonReese Witherspoon‘s production company, Type A Films, is developing a movie based on the murder of 14-year-old Reena Virk in British Columbia 10 years ago. The teen was beaten and drowned by classmates. The movie will be based on the award-winning book Under the Bridge, about the swarming and subsequent murder, written by Rebecca Godfrey. Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the teen drama Thirteen, will helm the picture, which has not yet been cast.

kudos Reese, Reena’s death needs to be publized so more teen girls are aware of the violence they are creating.

I agree that Reena’s death needs to be known about, especially since the topics of bullying and social interaction are involved as well as the YOA in Canada. But why not find a Canadian actress? for example Elisha Cuthbert or Rachel McAdams.

Although both Elisha Cuthbert and Rachel McAdams would probably do a great job, it certainly doesn’thave to be a Canadian actor for a Canadian story. That’s as bad as Spike Lee telling everyone that he’s the only director who can properly tell a story about black people because he happens to be black. What rubbish! Next we’ll have to ship in alien directors to properly do sci-fi.
