Woody Allen supports Roman Polanski

Woody Allen told E! Online that Roman Polanski is a nice man who has suffered enough and he has signed a petition demanding the director’s release. “It’s something that happened many years ago … he has suffered, he has not been allowed to go to the United States. He was embarrassed by the whole thing,” Allen, 74, said during an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival this week. “He has paid his dues, he has had a hard life. The girl involved doesn’t want anything to happen to him.” Polanski fled the United States in 1978 to avoid prison after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl. He is currently under house arrest in Switzerland. “He’s an artist, he’s a nice person, he did something wrong and he paid for it. [The critics] are not happy unless he pays the rest of his life. They would be happy if they could execute him in a firing squad,” Allen claimed. Allen himself was the focus of criticism when his affair with one of longtime lover Mia Farrow’s adopted children, Soon-Yi Previn (pictured with him above) — whom he’d known and been a father figure to since she was 12 — became public. Allen and Mia are the parents of a son born in 1987 and they adopted two other children together. His career took a turn for the worse, though Soon-Yi was not a minor at the time. They later married in 1997.

He broke the law? And then he fled the country cuz he knew what he did was wrong and didn’t want to get in trouble. Its caught up with him finally, he deserves it.

For Years Polanski’s fan club have screamed that Polanski has suffered enough. That it wasn’t that big of a deal. It was only once, he’d never do it again! That the victim doesn’t want Polanski to go to jail. That Polanski is a great man, a great artist. That we should all forgive and forget!!
Yet a few weeks ago another actress finally came forward and claimed that Polanski sexually assualted her when she was 15 or 16 I believe. And this happened AFTER Polanski was convicted and fled to Europe.
Once a pedophile rapist. Always a pedophile rapist. There’s no doubt in my mind that there are more victims that are too scared of the public backlash they will receive from the Polanski fan club if they came forward.

We all do things we are not proud of but there are lines the majority of us would never consider crossing such as having sex with children. I don’t care how well her body was developed or even if she thought she knew what she was getting into .. when you’re that young, you’re mind is young and filled with romantic scenes. As an mature male adult, Mr Polanski was quite aware of her youth and crossed the line. I’m not sure why this case has been so persistently followed-up on but I can only hazzard a guess that there are other similar incidents involving Mr Polanski. This case just happens to be the strongest???
We all know pedophiles comes from all walks of life … including brilliant directors. Frankly, I don’t see how anyone can get turned on by an innocent child … it makes me ill thinking that my children run the risk of meeting someone who does but there are people out there who like young girls and boys.
Mr Polanski has enjoyed a long and wonderful career in his chosen profession with very little sacrafice (i.e. can’t come back to the USA) – I wonder how that young girl fared?
