An honest review

August 03, 2023

Although I’ve read through the negative reviews and people bragging about driving to Kanata I believe these people should go to Kanata, cartainly not welcome in the valley. And the review about “not airing a certain movie” wake I please. This theatre is not expensive, people are nice and basically you go and watch a movie, enjoy yourself and go home. Yes the snack stand is a little small and lineups could easily be avoided by opening a second cash fir the rush before the movie and of course, the same start time don’t help. Overall you get to see a movie (and yes a bit loud at times) but the pros outweigh the cons. Go see a movie and don’t go with a snobby attitude.

Dumb reviewers

Good for this area. People that are Wendy whiners need to get a life. This is a movie theatre in the valley. Give your head a shake. Duh.

Needs to Improve

December 16, 2015

The Algonquin Cinema seemed pretty good when it first opened up in the early 1990s, but it is in dire need of an overhaul. They need to upgrade all their equipment, improve the soundproofing between cinemas, and make a lot of little improvements, including how they run the place. I suppose the owners are trying to minimize their costs while squeezing out as much profit as they can with such small profit margins. Perhaps the movie theatre business is a really tough one to be in, and ideally it should be run by those who are really passionate about it. Going to the theatre is not just about watching the movie itself, it is also a social event. They might try to take some lessons from nearby theatres in Renfrew (the O'Brien) and in Petawawa (the Troyes Cinema on base). Those are much nicer theatres and are much more classy, pleasant and enjoyable to attend.

Falling apart

December 30, 2016

Can only use cash at concession. Lights burnt out on theatre floor. Seats broken. Can hear movies next to you. Needs a complete update. People drive to Ottawa or Renfrew instead.

No Other Choice

June 04, 2014

I've been going to this theater my whole life, not because I want to but because really, there are no other options. My biggest issue with this theater is the price. Over time the price has gone up to that of big name movie theaters (Cineplex, AMC) however you're getting half the quality. Since I've been going there the only upgrade was having some movies in 3D. The seats are uncomfortable, sound is way too loud (can hear movies through the walls from other theaters) and the screen quality is choppy at times. For the price you pay you do not get the atmosphere that you would from these bigger chains. That being said I have always been treated very kindly by the staff and other than the odd mess left by some kids the place is never that messy.

Great Popcorn and fair concession prices

May 10, 2014

I read some of the reviews already given and I think many ignorant customers do not realize that they are just as unfriendly and rude as the staff serving them. I have personally witnessed several of these rude customers and they know who they are. Do not expect someone to be cheerful to you if you are rude and very unkind to them. This cinema is run as well as any of its size in other similar size towns I have visited in Ontario. I think the very low class people that wrote the previous reviews need to look at themselves before being so critical of this business

Only Theatre We Have

December 30, 2022

Kids and I love to go to the theatre regularly but this one certainly needs some upgrades. The service is always fast and the staff are generally friendly and efficient. I just wish they had some newer chairs if anything.

Lucky find !

August 01, 2019

as most small towns don't even have a theater and they're disappearing quickly, we were very lucky to find this little theater close to the cottage that we rented. for those that have said the prices are too high, reality check this is the cheapest movie we have been to in years! Most movie theaters are 13 14 or $15. There could have been a bit more slope to the seats, and they are outdated and not super comfortable. a little courtesy from other patrons would go a long way to alleviating some of that problem, they were only six people in the movie that we went to and a tall man came in and sat right in front of me. Locals need to be more appreciative of this little theater or they may find it.

Needs work

January 24, 2020

This cinema is the only one around for miles. And the owners are lovely. However it smells strongly of Pinesol and you can hear the other movies in the next theatre. Also the seats are terribly uncomfortable so bring a cushion to sit on. It needs a total renovation.

Theatre needs upgrading

February 08, 2015

Very friendly staff, theatre was clean but in need of repair/upgrade. We could hear the other movie in the next room all throughout ours. Seats were uncomfortable. The concession area wasn't well stocked (candy section was almost empty!) and my popcorn was cold and oily - don't want to sound all negative but that's really how it was. Overall, it's a very friendly country theatre, great service but the entire place is in desperate need of a facelift. I suggest you go out for pizza before going and skip the concession stand.
