SilverCity Brampton Cinemas
It is the largest Silvercity in the Greater Toronto area with 16 screens, but those extra auditoriums are certainly needed. The Brampton suburb, located west of Toronto, has one of the most diverse populations in the country , as well as one of its youngest. It’s home to one of the largest-speaking Punjabi populations in North American, meaning the 16-screen theatre must make room for some of the finest films from Bollywood and South Asia, shown alongside the traditional Hollywood fare. Prime Minister Stephen Harper even met with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar at the Silvercity during his 2011 election campaign to garner popularity from the South Asian community. The Silvercity, which opened in 1999 and had an IMAX theatre—although that only operated for a year after it opened in June 2005—was also one of the first in Canada to install UltraAVX technology in one of its auditoriums.
