Critic blames Neighbors for Isla Vista shooting

By Tribute on May 27, 2014 | 4 Comments

In the Sunday edition of the Washington Post, film critic Ann Hornaday accused the new Seth Rogen comedy Neighbors and Judd Apatow for last Friday’s shooting spree in Isla Vista, California. In the article Hornaday claims the film makes teens feel shut out and isolated, like the perpetrator, Elliot Rodger. She states that because teens are not having the lives they see in movies, fueled with sex, drugs and fun, they feel lonely and isolated. She also blames men for the types of movies getting made, claiming it is just “violence, sexual conquest and macho swagger.” Both Rogen and Apatow tweeted in defense of the movie. Seth tweeted about how misinformed and insulting the article was. Judd, who was invited to debate the topic on CNN but declined, stated Hornaday only wrote the article for “clicks” to get more money from advertisers. ~Dylan Paisley

Ridiculous assessment by Ann Hornaday….how about mental health issues and easy access to weapons?

Ummm, this kid has been planning this attack for years. So, how does a movie that just came out a couple of weeks ago cause it? I agree with you Kris, it is more an issue of mental health and availability of weapons.

I think any surface change has something nice about it, but grass obviously is the most special one because you are only one month on it, so every day you have the chance to play on this surface is a special day, he said.
