Sony will release an extended version of Morgan Spurlock‘s music documentary One Direction: This Is Us in theaters this Friday. The film that documents the rise in success of British-Irish boy band One Direction will feature an additional 20 minutes of footage, including four songs that fans will get the opportunity to vote for. “We’re overwhelmed by the response to the film, so we’re thrilled to be able to release this extended cut of the film for One Direction fans. Followers can reach out on Twitter @1DThisIsUs with the songs they’d like to hear in the film — and go to the theater on Friday to see and hear which songs make the cut,” announced Sony chairman Jeff Blake. The film’s original running time was 92 minutes, but with the additional scenes it is expected to be near the two hour mark. One Direction: This Is Us debuted at the top of the box office two weeks ago with $15.8 million but fell to sixth place this past weekend. With this announcement of additional footage, it may just propel its numbers up again. Watch the trailer here. ~Alfonso Espina
