Shonda Rhimes responds to shocking Grey’s death

Lexie Grey has left the building. Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes promised the season finale would leave fans upset and she wasn’t kidding—but probably not in the way she expected. The season eight ender, which aired last night, created mass fan uproar when it was revealed Seattle Grace’s fan favorite doctor, Lexie (played by Not Another Teen Movie star Chyler Leigh), succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the tragic plane crash that ended the previous episode. Her death is especially heartbreaking because of all that was left unresolved with the character, including her romance with hotshot doc, Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), that appeared to be on the mend after two rocky seasons. Rhimes immediately took to Twitter to do damage control after being bombarded with angry messages from shocked viewers. “I love Chyler and I love the character of Lexie Grey. She was an important member of my Grey’s family,” Rhimes said in a 300+ word tweet via twitlonger. “We had a lot of thoughtful discussion about it and ultimately we both decided this was the right time for her character’s journey to end.” The finale also saw the less-shocking departure of Kim Raver’s Teddy who was fired from the hospital after three seasons on the show. Leigh has remained quiet about her untimely exit. ~Kyle Sharp

One way to cut down on show’s expenses. I would guess their paycheques were quite large – TV shows like any business look to cut down on expenses and people are the 1st to go. What next, I wonder?

“Lexi” has 2 children in real life and perhaps is devoting herself to her family now, i was sad to see her go as well and Teddy but there’s always a good reason for her madness…. maybe now Kepner will be back on and I can only assume all the cast will not be leaving Seatle now and Sloan, well I have no clue what’s in it for him I really wanted to see him and Lexi have a happily ever after 🙁 can’t wait for next season, I loved this finale because it made me cry (A LOT) but it also ended without this horrible cliffhanger like they did when George died, I was mad until it came back on!!!! lol

This show has been on a steady decline for a while (at least for me). This seasons finale is the straw that broke the camels back! I WILL NOT be tuning in to see this show anymore. There are VERY FEW characters left on this show that have any depth, one of which was killed off. The others, well the writing for them has been in the toilet lately too. It makes me sad because at one time (early in the shows run) I really, really loved this show and it’s characters. Now I couldn’t care less if it comes back or not.
