Swiss free Roman Polanski

The justice ministry of Switzerland said today that the request to extradite director Roman Polanski to the United States has been denied. Polanski fled the U.S. in 1978 after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl. The justice department also announced Polanski is no longer under house arrest. Swiss Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf told a news conference today: “The 76-year-old French-Polish film director Roman Polanski will not be extradited to the USA. The freedom-restricting measures against him have been revoked. He can go to France or to Poland, anywhere where he will not be arrested.” She said the request was denied because the United States did not supply enough information regarding Polanski’s 1978 sentencing. Recently, actress Charlotte Lewis claimed Polanski sexually assaulted her when she was 16. She told the media, “He just said very coldly, ‘If you’re not a big enough girl to have sex with me, you’re not big enough to do the screen test. I must sleep with every actress that I work with, that’s how I get to know them, how I mold them.'” [Poll=200]

what a disgusting man, and switzerland is a disgusting place. how can anyone harbour someone that is a pedophile and then allow him to be free? what did house arrest teach him? how to lure young children into his home rather than to the movie sets?

People like him do not deserve to be walking free. One accusation is fine and I can appreciate it might be someone who is seeking attention or money but once more than one of the same crime come forward it is difficult to deny. He plead guilty once and will likely continue to be a cancer in which ever society he is living in. Why the hell would the Swiss want such garbage?

Toss him in the slammer and tell the entire population there what he has done.

cmon that was years ago. who knows she was willing to have sex with any one to become actress. he suffered enough! there are plenty of other people who have done worse than him.

  5. JustAThought • July 12, 2010 @ 3:18 PM

    To gail M.
I’d hardly say he deserves anything but suffering. He plead guilty! Do you know how rare it is for somone like him to actually change? And also, FYI just because other people may have done “worse” than him doesn’t mean that he should go free. At that point the Nazis should have gone free and unpunished because at SOME point in time somone probably did something worse than them. Just a thought.

Okay did you seriously just compare him to a nazi? You need to shut up now, he slept with a 13 year old girl, nazis were ordered by hitler to kill 6 million jews. Shut up if you think he compares to nazis. And it still does make it wrong that he slept with a girl that young because it is against the law. The justice system is so messed up, some people even get away with murder! And plenty of rapists walk free everyday! He has suffered enough, he has been having to be in another country for over 30 years.. And that other woman that came forward with allegations against him saying he forced her to do him when she was sixteen years old. She could have not had sex with him but she did so she could get a scree test. Shes only coming forward to get some publicity. Obviously it didn’t bother her that much when she was supposedly forced to having sex with him because she never came forward when it happened and she should have like the other girl did.

And again to just a thought, if you think that people like him were worse thaan the nazis than you obviously don’t know the things they did. They used to test on the jews, they would cut off parts of their bodies. An, they made them lay in freezing cold water overnight, and they set them on fire. They did all this all because they were jews!! And they even would cut out peices of their eyes will they were concious!! So you think most people are worse than that? Look all the stuff what the nazis did up on the net. You would be surprised.

Okay, so A. I wasn’t specifically comparing him to a nazi, if you would have read my comment more clearly you would have seen what I was saying was that just because others have done much worse than him i.e. nazis( point used because of the common knowledge of the Nazi atrocities and how wrong they were)does not mean that he, or any other person who does something of a “lesser” wrong, should get away with it. And B. I wasn’t saying, nor did I ever say, that people like him were “worse” than Nazis as unlike you unnecessarily assume and accuse me of, I actually do know what the Nazis did. Again, the point I was TRYING to make was that because one group or person does something terribly wrong, does not make it right for others to do some “lesser” wrong and on that basis get away with it. Also, never said that “most people were worse than that” (nazis). In both cases bad things were done but no matter which you’d like to classify, they were wrong and thus should be punished. Just a thought.

I agree with your posts JustAThought. Ally, you need to relax and get off the high horse you think you’re riding on. We all have opinions.

I personally don’t care how much time has elapsed from the time a crime was committed. It still happened and whoever did it deserves the consequences. This guy is a pedophile, no matter what fame or country he hides behind.

gail M. on July 12, 2010 12:22 PM if it were YOUR daughter, you would want justice, thats exactly what is wrong with the world today. people want to allow others to hurt other peoples children, but if anything happens to theirs they expect RESULTS and punishment.

Ally on July 12, 2010 5:53 PM justathought was merely showing how stupid that comment “others have done worse than him” sounded. he was showing that if he(or she?) picked something worse than having sex with a minor and threw in the old “someone did worse than that person” then everyone would understand what he/she was getting at about the comment being wrong.
“And that other woman that came forward with allegations against him saying he forced her to do him” he FORCED her, meaning RAPE, it doesnt matter if she was 16, 12, or 99 years old. FORCED sexual acts are illegal and life shattering for the young women that have to suffer through them. maybe you should think about that before you go yapping about her age?

also “Obviously it didnt bother her that much when she was supposedly forced to having sex with him because she never came forward when it happened” ?!?! are you nuts? at LEAST 75% of women that are abused or raped do not come forward at ALL, her choosing to do so now is better than her having never said anything at all. as a victim of violence (and rape) there were VERY FEW people i told, and the police sure arent on that list…doesnt mean it didnt happen.

justathought and red, i admire your comments.

thought id do a bit of research for ya ally, : FACT: Women rarely make false reports about sexual assault. In fact, sexual assault is a vastly under-reported crime. According to Statistics Canada, only 6% of all sexual assaults are reported to police.

A Canada survey found that one-half of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of sexual or physical violence. Almost 60% of these women were the targets of more than one such incident

those are the only ones i felt were needed to show you she isnt lying.

Bravo, mandee! I was waiting for you to jump in on this one =P I really hope this is not the end of the road (punishment-wise) for him. And I hope the girl(s) will be justified and cope well.

  13. mandee • July 14, 2010 @ 5:36 PM

😛 thanks, i would have jumped in sooner but i have been working a lot and havent been online too much and i agree with you, he deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law.
