Roman Polanski arrested in Switzerland

Convicted child rapist Roman Polanski has finally been arrested after eluding U.S. authorities for over 30 years. He was charged in 1977 with perversion, sodomy and rape by use of drugs and pled guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl. He’d taken the child to Jack Nicholson’s Hollywood mansion, given her champagne, then fed her a quaalude before raping and sodomizing her. After his conviction, Polanski fled the country for France, where he continued to make films. The young victim, Samantha Gailey, described the incident afterwards, saying, “It was not consensual sex by any means… It was very scary and, looking back, very creepy.” Now a wife and mother, she has since asked that charges be dropped so she can get this behind her and move on. He was arrested in Zurich, where he’d traveled to receive a lifetime achievement award at Zurich’s film festival. Polanski will be held in detention in Switzerland until extradition to the United States can be arranged.

caught Debra Winger on the news last night…

“We hope today this latest (arrest) order will be dropped. It is based on a three-decades-old case that is dead but for minor technicalities. We stand by him and await his release and his next masterpiece.

absolutely outrageous to see her classify this as “minor technicalities”…trivializing at its very worst…

The case is obviously not dead, and if it had happened to her, I’m sure the words “minor technicalities” wouldn’t even enter her mind.
I can understand Samantha wanting to put it behind her, but he committed a horrendous crime and should be punished for it.
