Adam Lambert to mentor American Idol contestants

By Alexandra Heilbron on April 8, 2010 | 21 Comments

adam_lambertLast year’s American Idol runner-up, Adam Lambert, will mentor this season’s remaining eight contestants next Tuesday. “It’s true!” he wrote on Twitter. “In addition to performing on Idol April 14th, I will be mentoring the top 8 on the 13th. I feel honored to be asked. Even though I’m just at the start of my recording career, I hope to lend some insight as one who’s been thru the Idol adventure. Excited!!” This is the first time an American Idol alumnus has been asked to mentor. Adam will perform his hit single “Whataya Want from Me,” which is currently No. 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100, on the results show the following night. This year’s American Idol has feen featuring younger artists this season, including Miley Cyrus and Usher, and younger guest judges during the early auditions, such as Joe Jonas and Avril Lavigne. Lambert has promised that his appearance on the show will not be outrageous as his recent performances have been, tweeting, “Don’t worry America: I will be beyond family friendly. Relax and enjoy. For Your Entertainment.” ~Alexandra Heilbron

It will be great to see him again. One of the best that American Idol has ever introduced to Canada and the U.S.

Adam Lambert “mentoring” give me a break…..he’s still in diapers….so is Miley Cirus!!!! AI must be hard up!!!

  3. maggie • April 8, 2010 @ 1:28 PM

This is the smartest thing AI has done all season! Finally, a reason (besides Bowersox) to tune in and watch what has until now been a very lackluster show. I am sure Adam Lambert will bring (back) some glitz and showmanship to the series. And let us not forget, while he may be at the start of his solo singing career, he has a decade of experience performing on stage.

Maybe the season 9 contestants will finally actually DO something onstage!

Adam lambert hasn’t proven himself a superstar with staying power yet. Have him make a few more albums and then we will see if he has what it takes.

Juliana on April 8, 2010 12:44 PM agreed completely. adam has amazing talent and on top of that, hes simply gorgeous!

Laura on April 8, 2010 1:11 PM maybe they want him to mentor because hes such a great singer and because he knows first hand how stressful being on AI can be. you shouldnt base someones knowledge on their age.

maggie on April 8, 2010 1:28 PM i cant say much, i havent watched the show since adam lost ! lol.

my opinion on this article is this…i feel adam is already showing he can be mature by ensuring everyone knows he will behave in his performance. a lot of people were upset by the one performance of his and he clearly took the constructive criticism well and it seems to me he is trying to make himself be the best singer he can be. kudos to adam! <3 PS — tributegirl, nancy, gypsy and carol, i called the school today and explained that i think i didnt get in because i was being discriminated against (i really believe that because i have hearing problems and am in the process of getting a hearing aid that it was a contributing factor to why i didnt get in) and the woman that interviewed me called me back they want me to go back in tuesday of next week and go over the interview again and tell her and another woman why i would be a good psw and why i want to be a psw and stuff so they can reevaluate whether or not they want to let me into the school. i will let you know as soon as i know anything. if anyone can help me come up with a GOOD answer as to why i may be good as a psw and why i want to be, feel free to share it with me. i have some answers, but im assuming they arent the ones they wanted.

You’ve got to be kidding!! He better put some of that attitude back-in-the-closet !!

  7. silver • April 8, 2010 @ 5:23 PM

Mandee, what is a psw? Are you going for a job, or trying to get admitted to a school to be trained for a job?

  8. Carol • April 8, 2010 @ 8:09 PM

Mandee, ask yourself, why do you want to be…do you enjoy helping people, how do you feel YOU can make a difference? What are your strenghts? Are you able to lift a lot of weight, the physical stuff as well as the mental/emotional. Before you go, ask yourself why? What would this mean to you. Is there an experience you’ve had (good or bad) that made this a path you want to follow. And do you see yourself going any further in the future?

I would love to see Adam & Siobhan perform together…they are both so talented, dress outrageously and would bring out the best in each other. Would be AWESOME!!!

  10. Jack MeHough • April 9, 2010 @ 1:08 PM

is he going to perform felatio on everyone again? …or is that what he had to do to get on the show?

  11. mandee • April 9, 2010 @ 2:17 PM

silver, school and psw is a personal support worker they work with the elderly and the disabled (which is why i found it odd that it would seem as though i was being discriminated against due to my own slight disability!)

carol, thanks. i think my main reasoning is because my niece is autistic and i have lived (and worked) with her since the day she was born. she has given me a reason to want to help people in her same situation get back into the world. autistic people suffer quite a lot because of their disability. i mentioned something about my niece and how i wanted to be a psw so i could learn more about what type of care she will be given when she has a psw (because when my sisters not here anymore and im working, someone will have to take care of her) and the woman said she loved my answer, but she clearly didnt like something about me or else she wouldnt have simply said youre not in.

I can hardly wait to see Adam on American Idol once again. He should have won in the first place but he will go on to have a brilliant career with his fabulous voice, amazing personality, and outrageously good looks. I saw him in person last night and the show was fantastic!!!I definitely will be home to watch him on AI on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Good luck Adam! Love and best wishes. Lyvia

  13. tributegirl • April 9, 2010 @ 5:04 PM

mandee, once again Carol has given you excellent advise, and I hope you take it. You can also tell them that you have dealt with the elderly in the past (maybe family members, family friends, customers at places you have worked, etc), and explain that you really enjoy talking to them and helping them, etc.

  14. Carol • April 9, 2010 @ 8:46 PM

Roll with that Mandee, but not just your niece, anyone else with needs, mental, emotional, and how did you enjoy working with people at the coffee shop. Did you make their day. I worked at Tim Horton’s before, and people would come in to see if me and another girl were working because they said we made their day. Anything like that? Draw on everything you’ve got.

  15. Carol • April 9, 2010 @ 8:47 PM

oh yeah, and about the article…CAN’T STAND ADAM LAMBERT!!!

  16. tributegirl • April 10, 2010 @ 8:50 AM

Oh, Carol, I loved him on AI, still love his singing and even his style, but don’t like the things he’s been saying/doing since AI. I really hope he keeps it clean when he’s back on the show.

  17. gypsy • April 10, 2010 @ 12:04 PM

Mandee, you can mention that alot of the elderly people are lonely, and you would like to help them feel that they are not a burden to society.Tell them you would be interested in listening to their stories on what it was like when they grew up,while doing your job.Tell them you have heard that many don’t get family visits, and they get very emotional, how you would do and say things to brighten up their day.Make them comfortable, encourage them to eat when they don’t want to.How you would help them maintain their dignity at shower time by letting them wash certain areas themselves,if they are able to.How the job would make you a better person,by helping those that can no longer help themselves. Also explain that you know there is a difference when working with elderly men and woman in the hygiene area, and you are quite capable of learning how to look after both equally, without embarrassment.Tell them you will always show respect to them, and be patient with them,if they become difficult, explain that you had to learn to be patient, when looking after your niece for many years, and you are confident you can do this job.

  18. mandee • April 10, 2010 @ 2:00 PM

thanks everyone 😀 and carol, i had repeat customers. they would come in and complain about the other shifts and we would sit down and have visiting time between me serving customers. i loved working at country style because since i worked alone it was more of a personal environment. i got to know the customers as friends rather than as people just passing through.

wow gypsy, thanks those are all great ideas. 😀 i really like tribute . ca lol 🙂

Mandee my hubby said if you have any tattoos that you can cover-up with a long sleeve shirt or turtleneck try to hide them for your interview,he had to cover his in 100 degree weather with both, lol.I guess they get the wrong impression of a person, and that could be a deciding factor on you getting into the course!Sad but true, although once your in you can shed the heavy stuff.

  20. Thibz • April 11, 2010 @ 8:59 AM

He is IN NO PLACE TO MENTOR WHEN HE DISRESPECTS OTHER ARTISTS FOR NO REASON. This guy has to GO away forever!

  21. Jo-Anne • April 11, 2010 @ 10:11 PM

Dol, you got that so right, I would love to see that as well.

I was a bit disappointed with this final batch of talent, however have become increasingly “wowed” (take that, Annoying Kara!!) by a few of them, Bowersox almost consistently great without a doubt, Siobhan original and interesting, Casey and Katie even more impressive on their last performance…

I hope to see this Tuesday/Weds as I will be in the States, and look forward to Adam’s input….I wonder if that Kris guy will be amongst the throngs of Idol viewers…
