Angelina Jolie to star as Marilyn Monroe

By Alexandra Heilbron on August 17, 2010 | 13 Comments

Angelina Jolie is to star as Marilyn Monroe in a new film, having beat out both Scarlett Johansson and Christina Hendricks for the role, according to the Daily Mail. Andrew O’Hagan, who wrote the book “The Life And Opinions Of Maf The Dog, and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe,” revealed the news at the Edinburgh Book Festival last weekend. George Clooney is being lined up to play Frank Sinatra, who gave Monroe the pet Maltese terrier that she named Mafia as a joke reference to the crooner. The dog’s name was later shortened to Maf, or Maf Honey. The book tells the story of the last two years of Monroe’s life, and is written from Maf’s perspective.

well she better put on some weight then. She was to skinny in Salt to pull off that role. I guess we will see what happens.

To Joshua: She is not skinny, she is a slim person. You called that skinny? Even she said it is a rumour i would love to see her in new Monro movie. She will be good at this!

Yeah, waaaaay to skinny to play Marilyn…how is she still alive???

I think Joile is a bad choice for this movie. Johanssen would have been ten times better. Johanssen has the curves and the personallity to play a genuine Monroe. Jolie is to dark and cold in her roles to pull it off. Bad Bad Choice!

She looks ridiculous with that wig on. Scarlett Johansson should have been Marilyn Monroe. She would be perfect for it, she looks so much like her. Angelina has a husky voice, Marilyn had a soft voice, she is so wrong for the role in so many ways.

    Natalie
if you think Angelina is not skinny, then you must think Nicole Richie isn’t skinny either. Angelina is skinny, her back bones stick out, how is that not skinny?
And yes, Scarlett would be 10 times better because she is curvy like Marilyn was, Angie certainly is not.

Blonde is not an attractive hair colour for her.

Scarlett yes, Jolie no. Scarlett body, Jolie no. Scarlett acting yes, Jolie no. I think Jolie can look similar with a little weight but really just give it to another talented actress who can pull it off and sell tix. Scarlett.

I agree, she is way too skinny, I’d like to see her put some weight on, but if she doesn’t I hope they can do whatever to make her look more like Marilyn. I think she might be able to pull this off, time will tell.

you folks ever wonder that even you would argue here that doesn’t change much? what a small, useless comments you are writing in here?!!!!!!!!!! both Angelina & Scarlet are wonderful actress and human beings no matter what.
With or without they will be shining and shining,,,,,,
That’s just the truth unfortunately! Skinny or not skinny Angelina is amazing humanitarian and great A list actress! By the way I don’t think she is skinny she is slim person for good! Scarlett is too good rising actress. No complaints at all really!

    @ Jo-Anne

I agree with you as well.

    My comments on the article:

I agree with most of the comments here. I think when it comes to looks and personality Scarlett would have been a slightly better fit. As with any role the actress/ actor must be believable and the audience must be able to forget who is playing the role (in my opinion) and focus on and be immersed in the story being told on screen. I think, likely due to physical traits which Scarlett shares with Monroe would allow that transition from looking at the actress to character on screen easier for the audience.

    Just my two cents.

Don on August 17, 2010 10:36 PM loved your comment, even though it didnt make much sense lol.

i admire angelina (in case any of you somehow missed that ahahaha) and the truth of the matter is, any movie she is in i will see. i dont like scarlett. im not sure why. i agree angelina needs to gain some weight, but she is an amazing actress and i think she looks amazing in the above pic.

i do think scarlett would probably make more sense for this movie, but i wouldnt watch it then.
