Charlie Hunnam, 33, and Dakota Johnson, 23, will star in Universal Pictures and Focus Features’ adaptation of E.L. James’ erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey. The first installment of the trilogy, which has sold over 70 million copies worldwide, chronicles the erotic relationship between 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey (Hunnam) and college student Anastasia Steele (Johnson). James, who made the casting announcement via Twitter, wrote: “To all the supporters, lovers and haters – thank you so much for the passion that you have for this project. You all rock. All of you.” Hunnam is best known for his roles on FX’s Sons of Anarchy and Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim. Johnson, who is the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, previously starred in Fox’s short-lived comedy Ben and Kate. Fifty Shades of Grey will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and is based on a script by Kelly Marcel. It is scheduled to hit theaters August 1, 2014.~Alfonso Espina
