Hangover 2 release date may be postponed

By Alexandra Heilbron on May 24, 2011 | 8 Comments

The Hangover Part II may not open this Thursday as scheduled, thanks to a lawsuit regarding a tattoo worn by one of the characters in the movie. Two top Warner Bros. executives testified in a St. Louis court yesterday during a federal court hearing. S. Victor Whitmill is seeking an injunction to prevent the release of the movie on the grounds that the facial tattoo worn in the film by Ed Helms violates a copyright of the original tattoo Whitmill designed for Mike Tyson in the first film. He filed suit April 28 claiming copyright infringement. Warners executives told the court that blocking the film’s debut at this late stage would cost the studio millions. A ruling on the case is expected later today. (UPDATE: Though the court case will continue in regards to the tattoo’s copyright, the film will open Thursday as scheduled.) Above is a photo of Mike Tyson at the premiere and a photo of Ed Helms in the sequel. What do you think? Does Whitmill have a case? Did they copy his design in the second film? [poll=282]

Ok, really, did anyone else on earth know it was copywritten tatoo?? It was on film, and the joke is he got one to be like Tyson in the first film obviously. Should Tyson not be sued for not telling anyone in the film crew it was copywritted?? (isn’t he in the 2nd one as well?).. It’s not REAL tattoo anyway, so actually it’s only the image that’s used, but really anyone who takes a picture of Tyson or the side of Tyson’s face and makes a little profit from it, can they be sued? Ridiculas situation. Besides now that tattoo artist has it known out there (good for him) and now he should make $ for making original tattoos on faces.
Can anyone who puts a simple tattoo anywhere copywrite it cause it’s their handywork? Watch out ladies all those butterflies on your lower back you might have to pay .05 everytime you expose it. And for everyone with those stupid armband tattoo’s you might have to as well..once we track down the original one..(Pam Anderson lol)

If you look closely enough despite the angles, you can see its not as big and certain parts are slightly off from the original which changing the size and parts of the design and the fact that the Warner Execs paid for the art for the first one and most likely stipulated in the release contract that they have the right to use the image in later productions… thats fair use

The Humane Society wasn’t able to put their stamp of approval (No animals were harmed during the making of this movie) on it because of the way the monkey was treated during the filming of this. Something to think about.
