The best gift I ever recieved would have to be the Teddy Ruxpin talking teddy when I was 5 years old on Christmas 1987. I was such a fan of Teddy and I wanted the talking bear so bad! When I opened the big box wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper I was the Happiest boy in the world. I remember staying up all night into the early morning listening to Teddy tell me stories. It was a Magical Christmas! What made it even more special is I was with My Mom and My Dad came Christmas Eve and stayed overnight for Christmas Day. Unfortunately the next morning when I woke up I went to turn Teddy on but he would turn on. I thought maybe I needed to change the big D batreries but after I changed them he still wouldn’t move or talk. He was broken after one night. My parents took him back to sears the next day and I didn’t ever get him back. At least I got to have that one night with him and my Mom and Dad. The Memory will last forever! It’s priceless. I’ll cherish it always.

I was going on a trip early in the new year and I was a bit sort of cash. My mom usually refuses to give money or gift cards, as she wants to give us something thoughtful and tangible. Well that year I got a big box from her that was filled with another wrapped box and then another and another. The last box was bigger than a shoe box and was full of crumpled up pieces of green paper.. but mixed in with it were crumpled up $20 bills. I had to search through the box to find my $100 worth of twenties and my mom got a good laugh out of it. I not only really appreciated the money, but also the effort and thought she put into a gift that helped me out.

I would say that the BEST Christmas present I ever received was when 3 years ago, my spouse gave me a rather personalized gift. He had taken these old black and white wedding photos of my parents (both are deceased) and had them framed. As my Mom had passed away just earlier that same year back in March, this was a gift that made me teary as I opened it. I will cherish these framed photos always. : )

No single gift, but anticipation of what is in the box beyond the wrapping. I think I was 7 or 8 when each box opened lead to a still smaller parcel. It got down to a single matchbox toy which was cherished for years.
My mother rarely gave me anything for Christmas but one year got me a Dragon Ball movie on VHS when I was 9 and I never forgot about it. Not the greatest movie but I am still really grateful for it.

The best and most precious gift I received was from my son – he compiled a CD of his voice in songs, a mix of Tunes both old and new. He loves music and had lessons in piano, voice, theater as a child. Still uses his talents today! I received a Hand Drawn Picture of a huge family standing in front of 3 trees and a house with puffy clouds with an angel beside the Sun. This was drawn from my Grand-daughter who lost her older sister (my other Grand-Daughter) to a rare form of Cancer. She told me Nene was looking over us when she handed it too me. It teared me up.

I would have to say the gift of family and a cook book- one year my whole dad’s side of the family got together because parents are divorced and we all meet in Utah. My family of four drive down to Utah which was very tricky as I am from Alberta and it was the worst winter storm pretty much all the way down so the drive took about twenty two hours instead of 14 or 16 and we showed up Christmas Eve right before the dinner which was at another location during that dinner there was a gift exchange that had a story with it and each time in the story when the person walked left or right a certain amount of times that’s how many times we passed the presents around that we were each holding. At the end of the story whatever present we had we opened and mine was a cookbook. On that night I met my step Mom’s mother who was very nice and heard allot about us and really wanted to meet us. My wife and two kids and I really connected with her and that night brought us a true sense of family togetherness. Within the next two days she unfortunately passed away and it turns out she had some things going on that she did not disclose with anyone on top of the conditions that people already knew. The connection and talks with her that one night was really strong so I am really grateful of that evening and being able to meet her so now Everytime I see or use that cookbook I get that sense of family togetherness that was so strong. So for that I could not get a better gift

The best gift I ever received was a surprise visit from my Granny. We always talked daily, but didn’t get to see each other as much as we would have liked due to distance. She came to my home with her little suitcase and stayed over for Christas Eve, Christmas, and Boxing Day. This time, I got to cook for her and take care of her instead of the other way around! She got to play tractors with my 3-year-old son and listen to him chat about all his favorite things. She left on Boxing Day to go back to her home. She passed away a few days later. Our final Christmas together was such a wonderful gift.

The best Christmas gift I ever received was going on a month-long family trip in our motor home down to the States in 1982. We went with our family friends and my Ukrainian Gramma (Baba) who never had been in a motorhome let alone a trip to the states. We departed Canada at the beginning of December and did not get back until the New Year. We drove to Disneyland, Las Vegas & Arizona – it was honestly the best Christmas I have ever had since!

A a background to where my best gift ever came from, I have a very strong love of Beauty and the Beast. One year, my very very sweet partner sourced out a company that specializes in preserving flowers and had them re-create the enchanted rose (in a dome too!) from the movie.. with the fallen petals and everything. The « best » gift I ever got was when I was about 12 years old. It is very silly, but back then, I was obsessed with the show baywstch and, at the end of every show, they would advertise a CD of songs from the show featuring the cast. It was a rare thing then. We didn’t have record stores where we lived and the internet was in its early stages, so you couldn’t order it. Every week when I saw it at the end of the show, I would mention how I wished I knew how to find it. My mom got it for me at Christmas! She had to ask a neighbour’s kid who went to college in the city to have it special ordered at HMV and bring it back to her.

The best gift I ever received was a stereo when I was a kid (we are talking late 70’s here). We did not have a lot of money when I was growing up, and I could not believe that I got a stereo, it was silver, it had a turntable, cassette, 8track and clock radio built in……I thought it was the coolest thing ever….I could not believe that my parents spent what must have been a few hundred dollars at that time, on me, that was the greatest Christmas ever. I also got an AC/DC album, that I assure you, my parents did not appreciate, they had just asked the store clerk what was most popular album at the time, boy were they sorry, but not me, I was too cool for school!

The best gift I ever received was in the form of an envelope with a simple piece of paper making mention that my first ever massage was to be booked at my earliest convenience simply by phone. I was 16, dancing competitively and my parents were going through a nasty and violent divorce. This gift was bestowed upon me from my two younger brothers who could tell the burden of being the oldest, my not so sweet 16 was having on me and my health, mentally and physically. That massage was the most thoughtful and life changing experience to date and I have my two insightful and generous brothers to thank. It has spurred a lifelong interest in healing arts and a certification in hot stone!

Both my parents passed away, within three months of one another, in 2011. My grown children and I would often drive by their house, my childhood home, and ‘look’ at it. We noticed the house numbers had been replaced by the new owners. For Christmas that year, my eldest daughter gifted me with the original brass numbers from their house, She had gone to their old house on her own and asked the new owners if they still had the original house numbers! I still have it; it’s a prized possession.

I was five years old and my Dad who was in the military was away at Christmas. He was stationed in Alert which is as close to North Pole as one can get. He sent me several postcards like he normally did when away but this time he sent a letter and a photo of with him with Santa Claus. For a five year old kid, there was no bigger celebrity than Santa. And of course, Santa mentioned I was a good girl. It would have been better to have my Dad home for Christmas but this letter and photo meant a lot. Dad is now gone but I’ll always cherish this.

We picked up a little fake tree and decorated it with paper decorations that we made. We also had little babybel cheese, we took the wax off and molded the wax into little ornaments for the tree. I was 8 when I received a doll carriage with a gold top from my mom and dad and baby doll from my grandmother for Christmas. My grandmother had taken me shopping to pick out a doll. I had no clue why we were shopping or that that she had bought the one I liked, a Betsy Wetsy. She made a beautiful pink nightgown for the doll. I gave away the carriage to a little girl I knew when I was about 16. When I went around to see that family on Dec. 26 that year it was laying out in the snow. It broke my heart because I had taken such good care of it. I have never seen another like it. I still have the doll though and will be giving it to my grand-daughter someday. It brought me a lot of comfort and joy while I was a child.

I cant even imagine how many hours he worked on it for me. The clock part is a heart and he shellacked my family picture on it. He included a quote about love on it as well. It’s so beautiful. But it meant so much more because my husband took them from the beach a block away from where we’d gotten married that summer (Waterton Park).

My husband and I were spending Christmas with our son and his family a few years back. Many gifts were piled up around the beautifully decorated tree, but for me, I couldn’t help noticing one exquisitely decorated gift beautifully wrapped in silver and grey paper with ribbons to match. My eyes were so drawn to it and I began to wonder why? Later, as the gifts were given out by the resident Santa, there was much merrymaking and hugs. At last, the mystery gift was chosen by Santa and upon checking the name on it made his way towards where I was sitting, placing it in my hands! It was for ME!! The room was suddenly quiet as I untied the ribbons and gently eased the paper loose as if too lovely to disturb. I could never have imagined that a very precious BEAR was hiding in that box and as I lifted her out I immediately recognized the ‘coat’ it was wearing! It belonged to my Aunt who never would walk – crippled by polio before she crept. By this time I was weeping to think that my
only daughter had given me a one of a kind remembrance that she knew would be so dear to me!

The best gift I ever received was a picture frame with “#1 Stepmom” engraved on it. In the frame was a photo of myself and my two step-daughters. They had also printed off a little insert, that said how things hadn’t always been easy between us but that I showed them the unconditional love of a parent. It said they love me. Although I am no longer with their father, I still have the frame and photo, as well as a good relationship with the (all grown-up now) children.

The year that I got up and there was no presents under the tree. My sister and I had been sneaking around and our parents found out. So as young children excited about Christmas morning, to get up and there be nothing was devastating. My sister and I went outside to play after eating and I remembered thinking about all those people out there celebrating Christmas. How sad it made me feel. When my sister and I returned from playing, the tree was filled with presents, and even though I could not tell you what one of them was, I still remember that feeling of waking up to nothing and that has shaped how I look at Christmas every single year. Some gifts cannot be seen they must be felt with the heart.

I really wanted a life sized Disney Pollyanna doll. When I excitedly ran to our Christmas tree on Christmas morning looking for my Pollyanna doll, she wasn’t there! In her place was an even larger dark-haired doll. When I grew up my mom told me that she’d searched high and low for a Pollyanna doll but couldn’t find one. It had been years since all of us, including nieces and nephew were all together under one roof. A glorious time.

The due date for my second daughter was January 6, 2019. I wished she would be born in December 2018. On December 23rd I was supposed to meet up with some friends to see a movie before I gave birth and on that morning my water broke. I canceled my movie date and stayed at home with my husband and sent my older daughter to my mom’s place. The next morning, I gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl. That’s the best Christmas gift I ever received. We left the hospital that afternoon to help our older daughter prepare milk and cookies for Santa 🙂

I am thankful for what my mom did, it meant more than any store bought gift before or after.

Best give was an easy bake oven when I was a kid. We were not wealthy and it was an extravagance so I never thought much about it. But then, as usual, I snuck to the living room in the middle of the night Christmas eve to see what gifts Santa left. Low and behold, a very big box was wrapped and I just new it was an Easy Bake. I thought I could just rip a bit off the back end of the box just enough to take a peek. Sure enough, out pops my mom with the “do you know what time it is, back to bed”. And before I could check, back to bed I went. As soon as I heard movement in the kitchen, early in the morning, I dashed back to the living room, ripped open that big box in seconds and saw my very own oven! It used a light bulb to “bake” the cakes and they were so small, but I loved loved loved it and wore it out!

As I tore off the gift wrap my mom got so excited because it was obviously some sort of an animal cage or kennel (air holes for the gerbil to breathe). She thought it was a kitten… it was not. No one has ever ran so fast to the front door of the house in their lives.

The best gift I have ever received was in I971; I was 16. Times were not always easy. My parents were always hard working and gave we children so much unconditional love. My dear Mom was like Mother Christmas and she did all of the shopping. My father worked evening shifts and felt a bit left out. That year when My brother, sister and I opened the gifts on Christmas day we were so surprised to see special presents from our dear father. We were even more surprised to discover that he had collected scrap iron and sold it to buy gifts for us. Not by words but by their actions by their sacrifices, and their hard work our parents showed us what true love and wonderful parenting was all about. Love and always miss you Mom and Dad.

The best gift I ever received was my engagement ring.
Mine was a beanbag chair I asked my dad for one for months 2 weeks before Christmas he showed me a beanbag chair he had been hiding in the house for me for xmas told me not to tell my mom I knew lol, it was very special gift and the last Christmas I got with him he died 2 weeks before Christmas the following year.
The Best Xmas present ever was a couple of years ago…Snow falling on Christmas Eve and that same evening getting good news about my sister in law’s health. She had been in hospital fighting a bad infection after her appendix ruptured while she was 7 months pregant.

Definitely a Cabbage Patch doll when I was 4 years old. In later years, I learned it was one of the hottest toys on the market that year. They were selling out everywhere. My mom and dad paid 3x the retail cost to get me one. Knowing they could ill afford it, makes the gift have even more meaning now!

My best gift for Christmas that I received was from my Dad, he lived in Ontario while we were in Halifax. HE sent me this dress that was brown and pink squares on it, with two buckles. I loved that dress and wore it for years. It was a special dress because we only got to see our Dad every 2 -3 years. To top it off he got the album Jackson 5 Christmas album. Best Christmas ever.

The best gift I ever received was a pair of tickets to see Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees. I had to travel 10 hours to where he was playing, but it truly was the most memorable experience.
The best gift that I have ever received is being able to spend time with my loved ones, especially at Christmas and Thanksgiving. I travel from a distance to see them, and it means the world to me that I can afford the time and energy to do it.
From an everyday standpoint, however, it was me finally investing in a new mid-range budget Android phone during the Black Friday promotional period. By doing so, I had changed my long-term provider of 20-plus years for a reasonably-priced monthly plan while upgrading my old but still well-maintained phone that I had for the past seven years. I was the 4th child of my family and the only daughter. When I was younger I always wanted to have a sister so I could play with her. At that time, I only had brothers and they were always playing together but never with me. But a few years later I was blessed with a little sister and since then I was really happy because I could share everything with her and also have some girl talk with her. This was the best gift I could ever asked!

The best gift I ever received was a large yellow plastic dump truck. It had one of those wind up motors in it. The faster you push the truck the faster the motor would turn. When you let it go it would go really fast and would out run any other truck or car that my friends had.
Forty five years later and I still have it, the truck is in good shape! I should pull it out and see how fast I can get it to go.

The part about Christmas that I cherish is the time & memories made with family.
However my favorite gift I have recieved was a T-shirt. It was black with a silhouette of wolves howling & trees into colored Northern lights. But what made the gift the best was that my dad had shopped for it, picked it out and bought it on his own. My dad does not shop (mom usually picks & purchases her own gift – unless one of us kids show dad what to get – level non shopper) that is what made the gift so precious

forty-five years ago, we went away for Christmas and New Year with our young sons. My husband had suffered a massive heart attach and did not think he was going to make. Well she sure did surprise everyone. He wanted to go away and spend quality time at a very special time with his young family. He is still around spending quality time with his grandchildren.
