George Michael calls Christian group “bastards”

By Tribute on January 5, 2012 | 34 Comments

When singer George Michael was battling a life-threatening case of pneumonia this past November, many fans sent warm wishes for his speedy recovery. There was one group however, who wasn’t feeling the love. Christians for a Moral America, a radical right-wing group, encouraged its followers to pray for his death, writing on their website that he was “reportedly close to death after being struck down with pneumonia (a symptom of AIDS).” The group referred to him as having been “outed as a homosexual back in the 90’s after being caught having sex with another man in a public bathroom (a common homosexual behavior).” Michael responded by posting an extensive rant via Twitter, writing, “I know for a fact that many devout Christians, such as the one I work rest and play with on a daily basis, are truly wonderful, kind hearted men and women who take the best parts of that religion and live admirable, generous and loving lives. But in my opinion, and I think those made evident by those who prayed for my death, there are others who use their twisted interpretations of ancient scriptures as a pathetic excuse to be…wait for it, wait for it….! Totally f**ked up c**ksucking bastards. And not in a good way…!”

Way to go Mikey!!!! Stick up for your rights!!!

  2. thornhillsouthguy • January 5, 2012 @ 9:22 AM

I have never been so proud of George Michael for speaking up. A TRUE Christian would NEVER want to hasten another person’s death or suffering, and he hit the nail on the head. There is NOTHING moral or superior about these people.

Good for you George! Religious zealots are often extremists and down right crazy.

  5. Pamela in Calgary, AB • January 5, 2012 @ 11:00 AM

I am glad he recognized that not ALL Christians are like those in that group. When religious zealots start protesting, I want to run the other way with a sign saying “I’m not the same at THOSE Christians”.

    Get well soon George!

    A caring Christian in Calgary

I’m with Pamela on this one. I think his comment was justified and I’m glad he noted that it’s not all Christians – that shows some class outside of the unclassy words used at the end. I may not be a GM fan, but I don’t wish him ill health.

You have such fantastic music. I don’t care that you are gay, you have given me a lot of hours of enjoyment. Keep it up. Don’t listen to those who want to tear you down. They are just jealous of you.
    Get well soon

  9. Monica • January 5, 2012 @ 12:19 PM

God is just love, pure love, and it’s our Father, I really don’t think that He would be very happy if I start praying for the death of one of my brothers or sisters…. some people have the wrong set of values!!

  10. Susan • January 5, 2012 @ 1:53 PM

I had pneumonia last year and I don’t have aids. What a bunch of hypocrites they are probably all watching child porn when no one is looking.

  11. That'snuts • January 5, 2012 @ 2:28 PM

Christian or not. What a bunch of red-neck losers. To those hateful Christians for a Moral America, grow up, read a book outside the bible, open your eyes to reality – No one of us is just like the other, and you all need to treat everyone with same respect your Bible advises. Do unto others.

  12. Spanky • January 5, 2012 @ 3:54 PM

One of these days mankind will wakeup to the reality that Religion was one of his worst creations! I’m just saddened it won’t happen in my life time. Of course this will only happen if the wacko religious nuts don’t destroy the world first.

  13. TheTruth • January 5, 2012 @ 4:08 PM

I like to believe that God is all loving and forgiving, and that some of these crazy nut jobs taking scripture and the bible so literally have got it all wrong, and that this new generation of bible believers and god worshipers are right But than I remember stuff like, *cough* Noah’s Ark…

  14. TheTruth • January 5, 2012 @ 4:11 PM

Spanky we needed religion to put fear into the people so they would all follow the king/queen/governments. Without it, there would be chaos. Who wants to follow around a group of powerful men and women because they say so, there would always be revolutions. But use something mystical and all powerful like god to strike fear, and now you can run your land and do away with protestors in the name of that god.

  16. Luis Willis • January 5, 2012 @ 6:52 PM

Christianity, Islam, Buddhism ,I don’t really care, I just wish this no talent loser would die or at least just go away already!!

  17. C-Dub • January 5, 2012 @ 7:45 PM

Wow I say good on George for that. And Christianity, do unto others as you’d have done to you. So, go and die if that’s what you want George to do. Lead by example you radical right-wing messed up idiots. Wow, religion should be about tolerance and acceptance. But just like other religions out there, people take it to the extreme and this is how wars start.
Live and let live. George, go suck all the C*ck you want, it’s your life not theirs.
My mom has pnemonia right now and she isn’t gay..or is it just for man-gays??
Either way it’s a hot topic.

  18. Germain • January 5, 2012 @ 8:13 PM

Go on George, stick it into ’em, ummmm I mean, stick it to ’em.

  19. scott • January 5, 2012 @ 10:22 PM

I am Christian, and I believe if other Christians prayed anything for GM it should have been for his salvation, not his death. Christians are not to hate those whose lifestyles don’t reflect those that they live or try to live. We are to show love those and pray for their slavation, the only way to win this world is to love, and hope that others will want to change so that no one will go to Hell. There is a lot of ignorance in this world, and we can only pray that people see the light of His love….

  20. Terry • January 6, 2012 @ 1:39 AM

There are too many so called “Christians” that would just turn you right off religion. And more of them need to be told just like George told ’em.

  21. Karen • January 6, 2012 @ 8:33 AM

Two of you hit the nail on the head – religion is man-made. Therefore, people will bend it to their own ends, and usually that’s to put other people in their place; the lowly, gay, women, people of differing colour. The day will come when a human being, ANY human being, can live their life without being judged by appearance or lifestyle. Many of the best people I know are not walking the path I walk. How isolationist people are. And yes, surely hypocrites!!!
I hope George Michael is better now. It’s a long road to recovery.

  22. Heather • January 6, 2012 @ 1:05 PM

the Bible says we will “know” true believers by how they live their lives – and praying evil on anyone is certainly not the lifestyle that says “I am a follower of the Son of God”

In the last days there shall be many who think they are of Him, but indeed and “in deed” are NOT

  23. sian • January 6, 2012 @ 6:59 PM

  25. L • January 8, 2012 @ 1:14 AM

    George way to go!!!
I have listented to your fantastic music for years, went to Montreal for your show at the Bell Centre in Montreal in 2008 you were unbelievable.
Come back to Canada real soon and get well soon.

Tell those christians to get a life! Obviously they don’t have one! Those c———-g idiots!

  26. T • January 9, 2012 @ 12:29 AM

Realistically praying for someone’s death…I mean who does that. If you know your right and your going to heaven…just continue on living and walking on the “righteous” path and leave others alone. This group is acting as though George Micheal is harassing them in some way. He is just living and if he wants to “burn in hell”, then that is his choice. You however as a disciple and NOT God himself are not here to past judgement…you are here to follow the word of God and live YOUR life to the best of your ability by His word. In no way does that include harrassing ppl and using PRAYER to wish death on another human being. Isn’t that a sin???
    Think about it.
George Micheal as well as everyone else has the right to live his life as he sees fit.

  27. Elisabeth Beck • January 9, 2012 @ 9:23 PM

    Good for you George…
I believe in God and I some time cringe at the people who call themselves Christians. Most of them are back stabbing two faced people who judge one another when they don’t have any right to judge anyone. It even says in the Bible the people who just talk about loving God when they get to Heaven they won’t be recognized by God because they didn’t really love Him at all. Not only do we have to Love God we have to love one another for who they are. I think George is one of the most loving and wonderful people and he has done a lot for others. God Bless George Michael..xxx

  28. Case • January 10, 2012 @ 1:13 AM

Looks like they need to read the Bible! God is a God of love. God is Love. Matthew 22:39 The second is like it: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 7:2 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

John 8:42-47 42 Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your fathers desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why dont you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.

Let everything finish in the ring, Pacquiao said. “No trash talk before the fight because its not a good example to all the people. If anyone has a grudge against someone, forgive them as God forgives. Its not personal, its our job, entertaining people.” Ariza said he did not believe Pacquiaos comments were directed at him, and the hours that had passed between the morning altercation and the late-night promotional event had not reduced his displeasure toward Roach.
