Simon Cowell’s mother confused by wedding plans

Simon Cowell’s mother is “baffled” by his newfound desire for marriage and children. At 84 years old, Julie had come to terms with the fact that her son would never give her grandchildren. But when Simon started dating make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy last year everything changed. “What baffled me most was the complete turnaround in my son,” Julie told Hello! magazine. “He has always insisted, ‘I’m fine as I am, mother. I’m not going to get committed to a marriage and I certainly don’t want children.’ I used to reply, ‘You don’t know, you’ve never had them.’ Now I really think marriage and fatherhood for Simon are going to happen. Mezghan is very family orientated, so she is ideal for him.” Simon met Mezhgan last year when they collaborated on a makeover for Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle. Simon is understood to have popped the question with a $400,000 ring while the couple were enjoying a romantic meal on Valentine’s Day earlier this month. Julie says, “I knew it was serious when Simon said he had something important to tell me,” she said. “I asked if it was good or bad and he replies, ‘That depends which way you look at it.’ ‘Just tell me,’ I said. He explained that he had asked Mezhgan to move in with him. Although girlfriends had stayed with him in the past, he had never done that before. This seems to make it official.”
