Toronto singer, 10, gets America’s Got Talent golden buzzer

During Tuesday night’s edition of the popular talent competition America’s Got Talent, Toronto singer Roberta Battaglia, 10, came onstage to perform “Shallow” from the movie A Star is Born, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

She appeared extremely nervous while on the stage in front of judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum, but immediately won them over with her enthusiasm.

While waiting for her to get over her nerves and begin, they began to look worried, and had host Terry Crews bring her a glass of water.

But the moment Roberta began to sing, they were awestruck. Simon Cowell even leaned over to Sofia and asked her to shut her eyes and listen, to fully appreciate Roberta’s sound.

Following her performance, Roberta burst into tears as she received a standing ovation and two thumbs up from Simon. Afterwards, Simon called her “so likeable, so humble” and added that she must have great friends.

Roberta answered, “Yes, but sometimes I do get bullied.” He told her, “There’s one way you win over bullies, that’s to be happy and successful. Bullies are always threatened by talented people.” He added, “It shows your strength that you come all the way from Canada to be here, and we are honored to have you as our guest.”

Sofia called her performance “amazing” and “breathtaking,” then said, “You know what? Let’s see who is going to bully you after this.” She reached over and hit the golden buzzer, causing clouds of golden confetti to fall on the little girl.
