Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth A. Grimes ruled yesterday that Keanu Reeves did not act maliciously when he struck photographer Alison Silva with his car in March 2007 while leaving a parking space. Silva claimed he was struck by Reeves’ Porsche while taking pictures of the actor, but Reeves’ lawyers argued that Silva placed his hand on Reeves’s car, then tripped. Silva’s lawyer, Joseph Farzam, says they will still pursue a negligence claim, which goes to trial in October. Farzam said Silva’s wrist was fractured when he fell to the pavement and that he has undergone surgery, but remains partially disabled. Another surgery is scheduled. In a signed declaration, Reeves said he stopped the car when Silva fell and gave the photographer water. He quoted Silva as saying, “It was an accident,” at the time.
