Mariah Carey says American Idol was like working with Satan

By Alexandra Heilbron on November 14, 2013 | 11 Comments

Mariah Carey served as a judge on American Idol last season alongside fellow judges Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj. However, she says when she signed on, she was told there would only be three judges. During a visit to The Angie Martinez Show on Hot97fm, she said of her one season on American Idol: “Honestly, I hated it. Here’s what it was. I was the first person who signed on…I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice…monetary moment, and I was just like, ‘Okay, Randy Jackson will be there; I’ve known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn’t a big deal. This will be nothing.’ But it wasn’t that,” she continued. “It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan.” Mariah and Nicki famously didn’t get along, with Nicki often rolling her eyes as Mariah was speaking. However, Mariah went on to say she loved the contestants, adding, “And some of them that were so good — and also really good people, you could tell.” Watch the video below:

Boo hoo hoo. Ah, poor thing making millions of dollars to spit out pointless comments about contestants. I really feel for you….

I would love to win anything. So far, I have not won anything. So I guess cash would be the best time of winning.

If it was like working with Satan, why did you stay on this show? $$$$$$$….I guess we now know what your willing to put up with for $$$$$

Nicki was really funny on AI, though I don’t like her music. I love Mariah’s music, but I could tell she had to bite her tongue every time Nicki criticized her comments about the singers. Honestly, she really showed the patience of an angel. I’m sure she’s a bit of a diva but she’s earned the status she has.

I see what she’s saying, I’ve worked with people who can make your life a living hell.

This was the first season where I couldn’t watch it. Just because I thought Nicky Minaj (who I’d never heard of prior) was such an awful woman and I couldn’t stand to listen to her. It’s to bad because I thought Mariah and Keith were fair judges, even though I’m not really fans of either, I respect that they are good musicians. Nicky Minaj just seem like a walking, gibbering circus.

What happened to her, she used to look so sweet and nice, now she looks like an idiot with the flat hairdo and the fake boobs. She looks cheap as hell.

Nikki should NOT have been the one on the show. She DOES NOT SING!!! How can she critique singers. At least Mariah is actually known for her singing and stage presence etc. Nikki was there for flash and spice things up only. I’m sure it wasn’t like working in hell with Satan though. A little to the extreme much?

It seems Mariah is the one that is hard to work with. She seems to have such a diva attitude. Just because she has a long resume doesn’t mean she can put another singer down aka Nicki Minaj. Every time Nicki made a comment on AI Mariah would roll her eyes. Like only her words are worthy. I usually stopped watching after the auditions. The rest is so boring.

Minaj can’tread past the grade 4 level. She is just here to show off her big fat ass, and her boobs! Take it or leave it. I left long time ago.
