Michael Jackson memorial a moving tribute

By Alexandra Heilbron on July 7, 2009 | 15 Comments

Paris JacksonClose to 50,000 fans without tickets showed up for Michael Jackson’s memorial service in Los Angeles today, in addition to the lucky 17,500 with tickets who attended the service inside the Staples Center or watched the large screens from the Nokia Theatre. The memorial went off without a hitch after the pop star’s golden casket was wheeled in by his brothers. His entire family was in attendance, including his sisters, his parents, and his children. The tributes and songs dedicated to Michael were moving, but the most emotional moments came towards the end, after those involved united on stage to sing “We Are the World.” The crowd then cleared, leaving the family to say a few words to the audience. Michael’s brother Marlon broke down as he spoke about how much pressure the singer endured during his life from “being judged” and “ridiculed,” adding, “Maybe now they will leave you alone.” Michael’s 11-year-old daughter Paris, who, along with her two brothers, has been kept firmly out of the public eye until today, then stepped up to the mike to proclaim: “Ever since I was born, daddy has been the best father you can ever imagine.” She struggled to continue as tears rolled down her face, and clutched her aunt, Janet Jackson, as she added, “And I just wanted to say I love him so much.”

You’re right, gypsy, out of the mouths of babes. He was obviously very loved. It is so hard for children that young to lose a parent, I hope everything will work out ok for them.
