New movies in theaters – Aladdin, Booksmart and more

Headlining this week’s releases is director Guy Ritchie’s live-action remake of Aladdin

The weekend has arrived and with it comes a slate of new releases hitting theaters today with titles that will surely appeal to audiences of all kinds. Aladdin – Street rat Aladdin (Mena Massoud) is recruited by the scheming Grand Visier (Marwan Kenzari) to retrieve an oil lamp, but discovers a magical Genie (Will Smith) inside whom he enlists to help him become a prince to win the heart of Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott). Click here for showtimes.

Brightburn – What if Superman wasn’t a boy scout and symbol for truth, justice, and the American way? Brightburn looks to answer that question. The childless Breyers (Elizabeth BanksDavid Denman) find an alien infant whom they take in and name Brandon (Jackson A. Dunn), to raise as their own son. When he begins to develop powers, he uses them to terrorize the inhabitants of his town. Click here for showtimes.

Booksmart – Best friends Molly (Beanie Feldstein) and Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) become distraught after they sacrificed four years and their high school social lives to get into Ivy League schools, only to find out that their partying peers will also be attending those same Ivy League schools. The two now look to make up for lost time by attending the biggest party of the year on the eve of their graduation. Click here for showtimes.

All is True – Retiring to the countryside, William Shakespeare (Kenneth Branangh) looks to reconnect with his estranged wife (Judi Dench) and daughters during his final years, as others look to reinvigorate his career as a writer. I’m Going to Break Your Heart –  After two decades of marriage and three children, musicians Raine Maida (Our Lady Peace) and Chantal Kreviazuk are struggling — like most people — with their relationship. Filmed on France’s isolated but romantic Saint Pierre et Miquelon islands in the dead of winter, the documentary captures the raw and wrenching journey these renowned singer-songwriters took to find their way back to each other.
