New movies in theaters – Ordinary Angels and more!

Plenty of new movies are hitting theaters this weekend, including Ordinary Angels starring Hilary Swank, a live theatre presentation, an early fan premiere of Dune: Part Two and more. Ordinary Angels  – Sharon Stevens (Hilary Swank) is a struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed Schmitt (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters, one of whom needs a new liver. Drive-Away Dolls – Jamie (Margaret Qualley), an uninhibited free spirit, is going through yet another breakup with a girlfriend. In search of a fresh start, Jamie and her friend Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) embark on an impromptu road trip, but things quickly go south when they accidentally take off with stolen loot that a group of inept criminals would like to get back. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Hashira Training – Tanjiro fights the demon Hantengu, while the Hashira prepare for a final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji. Dune: Part Two – Fan First Premieres in IMAX – Part Two explores the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee. Playing Sunday February 25 at 7 pm only. National Theatre Live: Vanya – Golden Globe-nominated actor Andrew Scott (star of the critically acclaimed 2003 film All of Us Strangers) brings to life multiple characters in Simon Stephen’s radical new version of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. at the National Theatre in London. Comedic and tragic, Chekhov examines our shared humanity — our hopes, dreams and regrets. Playing Thursday February 22 and Sunday February 25 only. Click here for showtimes.

Tenet – Armed with only one word — “Tenet” — and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist (John David Washington) journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Seagrass – Judith (Ally Maki) and her husband Steve (Luke Roberts) are having communication problems, so they attend a family retreat where their two young daughters can hang out and have a good time with other children while the parents take part in group-therapy sessions. Judith becomes fascinated by another couple, which leads her to believe that saving her marriage might not be in her own best interest. Playing in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Spaceman – An astronaut realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, he is helped by a mysterious ancient creature he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Playing in Toronto and St-Laurent; debuts March 1 on Netflix. Suze – Single mother Suze (Michaela Watkins) is dreading the day her daughter Brooke goes off to university. The only consolation is that Brooke is also leaving her boyfriend, Gage (Charlie Gillespie), whom Suze considers a loser. When Brooke lets her know Gage jumped off the water tower and is in the hospital, she begs her mom to visit Gage. Suze does so reluctantly, and is talked into taking Gage home for a few weeks to care for him in her house. With no other options, she agrees, and discovers there’s more to Gage than she originally thought. Playing in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Click here for showtimes.

Charlie Gillespie (Julie and the Phantoms) talks about his role as Gage in the uplifting film Suze. He reveals that he first saw it with his mother and aunt and was heartened by how much they loved the film. Charlie also describes how he felt about eating a dozen huge chocolate chip cookies in one day for a scene and says one of the draws of the film was the fact that he would get to play piano and sing.

Sara Waisglass (Ginny & Georgia) discusses her character, Brooke, in the heartwarming film Suze. She talks about filming in Hamilton, Ontario and reveals how happy she is that Canada produces such great films.

Bring Him to Me – Under orders from a ruthless crime boss, a getaway driver must battle his conscience and drive a young and unsuspecting passenger to an uncertain fate. Playing in Toronto. Click here for showtimes.

Stopmotion – Ella Blake is a stop-motion animator struggling after the loss of her mother. Suddenly alone in the world, she embarks upon the creation of a macabre new puppet film, which soon becomes the battleground for her sanity.
