Paramount Pictures Canada is releasing The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run in theatres on August 14, 2020 as a Canadian exclusive.

“We are thrilled that this movie, which largely came to fruition in Montreal, will be having an exclusive theatrical release in Canada,” said Paramount Animation President Mireille Soria. “We are so proud of this latest iteration of the SpongeBob universe, and to see Bikini Bottom and all of its beloved characters rendered in all-CGI for both longtime fans and new audiences to enjoy.”

In the film, written and directed by Tim Hill, after SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.
