Sunset Boulevard (1950)

Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) - This film offers a cynical view of Hollywood and its fame-starved residents. Norma, a has-been film star, has just committed a murder before delivering the last line in Billy Wilder's movie. She has slipped so far into insanity, however, that when photographers and news reporters turn up to the grisly crime scene, she assumes they're part of a film crew and says, "You see, this is my life. It always will be. Theres nothing else - just us, and the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark... All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up." How's that for dark and twisted?
