Hellboy (2019)

Rather than a third Guillermo del Toro-directed Hellboy film, the franchise instead went the reboot direction with Stranger Things star David Harbour taking on the titular role, replacing Ron Perlman. Though fans were obviously disappointed at the news that del Toro and Perlman would no longer be part of the franchise, early looks at the new Hellboy design had fans excited. The first trailers also teased more monster mayhem and a slightly different tone, but looked to be consistent with the character. Nonetheless, the film received a less than stellar reception. It became quite clear that this reboot was biting off more than it could chew. The film was trying to do too much and didn't have the budget for it. Had the movie been a little more focused in its direction and vision, we might be talking about where this series could have been heading instead of being dead in the water now.
