Pixels (2015)

The idea of bringing classic arcade video games to life is one that definitely had its appeal, especially among the older crowd that grew up with these games. What didn't have quite the same appeal was mixing that premise with the sensibilities of a typical Adam Sandler comedy. Sandler's brand of comedy had already begun to wear thin with critics and audiences before Pixels' release, and the film itself proved to be more of the same. That kind of bias towards its star worked against the film and its relatively safe feel under Chris Columbus' direction undermined whatever creativity and promise Pixels' premise contained. A tighter script and a different star would've made a world of difference for Sony with this project.
