The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) – The Sons of the Steward

With a film series adapting a work so dense, it shouldn't be a surprise that Peter Jackson's theatrical edits of his Lord of the Rings films cut out so much material. Thankfully, because of their massive popularity and critical reception, extended cuts of all three Lord of the Rings films made their way to home video. While there are a bevy of scenes to choose from, the one standout among them all has to be the scene titled The Sons of the Steward from The Two Towers. The scene depicts Boromir, following his reconquering of Osgiliath, meeting with his father Denethor and brother Faramir. Boromir is made aware of Elrond's summons, with Denethor stating it is because the One Ring has been found. It is here we learn that it was on Denethor's orders that Boromir sought the ring in The Fellowship of the Ring, helping contextualize his situation and desperation in the previous film.
