Gone Baby Gone – Ben Affleck

Tomatometer score: 94%

After hitting it big with an Oscar in 1998 for the Good Will Hunting screenplay, Ben Affleck focused on acting and didn’t make his directorial feature debut until 2007, with Gone Baby Gone. Also co-writing the screenplay, which was an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel, Affleck’s direction and writing were among the film’s many highlights. Though the film had a rather pedestrian box office take, Affleck would direct two more Oscar-nominated films with the 2010 crime thriller The Town, and the true story drama Argo, which won Affleck a Best Picture Oscar. His last feature film, Live by Night, was his first flop both critically and commercially, and his personal struggles seem to have held up his career. However, it’s been announced he’ll star in and direct the upcoming film Witness for the Prosecution, based on the Agatha Christie novel.
