Early Man

Stop-motion animation has always been a tough sell on western audiences and that was the case again with Aardman Animation’s latest film, Early Man. The film simply wasn’t given a fighting chance, opening up against Marvel’s behemoth Black Panther. The film was quickly forgotten despite critical praise. It opened at No. 7 with $3.1 million and would play for a total of six weeks with a grand total of $8.2 million. The film did bring in $46 million in foreign markets for a worldwide total of $54.6 million, which goes a long way in helping close the gap with its $50 million production budget (before factoring in marketing and distribution costs).
