Hellboy – Hellboy (2004) & Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

Coming off the Marvel sequel Blade II, Mexican director Guillermo del Toro's next big film was the adaptation of the Mike Mignola Hellboy comics. With this franchise del Toro would cast Ron Perlman, whom he had previously worked with on Blade II. The duo's partnership would endear themselves to fans of the comics, even if their films were seen as underperformers at the box office. That said, Perlman was perfectly cast in the titular role, encapsulating Hellboy's outsider nature and giving him both an affability and thorny nature. There's a reason why longtime fans of the film series were disappointed at the decision for the franchise to go in the reboot direction rather than conclude del Toro's trilogy with Perlman's version of the character.
