Gone Girl (2014) – Mystery Thriller and Dark Comedy

If there is any modern master of the mystery thriller it is none other than director David Fincher. With films like Se7en, Panic Room, Zodiac and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo under his belt, it’s no surprise that he took on the adaption of Gillian Flynn’s novel, Gone Girl. What was a surprise is how the film shifts from mystery thriller to a dark comedy farce once the twist is revealed. The dark satirical tone on relationships, marriage, and gender roles is both darkly humorous and frightening, thanks to the Oscar-nominated performance of Rosamund Pike.
