Ocean’s Eleven (2001) / Ocean’s 11 (1960)

Contrary to popular belief, there was another Danny Ocean before George Clooney played him in Ocean's Eleven. That was in the 1960 original film, Ocean's 11, starring Frank Sinatra as the mischievous leading character along with the rest of the Rat Pack in supporting roles. But the reason why so many are unfamiliar with the original? It's simple – the film was a mess, the actors performed with a lack of regard for the story, and it seems as though they played themselves at a classy afternoon soirée, which sorely takes away from the seriousness of the movie. Steven Soderbergh's 2001 reboot was a welcome change, not least because it features a powerhouse cast made up of George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Bernie Mac. Let's just say the entire film puts the heist in heist movie, and a sense of blasé determination is palpable throughout as our favourite criminal crew executes a major robbery at three Las Vegas casinos.
