The Godfather: Part II (1974)/The Godfather: Part III (1990) – 16 years

Coming 16 years after the iconic Godfather: Part II, the third entry in Francis Ford Coppola’s film series, The Godfather: Part III is most remembered for Coppola’s ill-fated decision to cast his daughter, Sofia Coppola, in the role of Mary Corleone after Winona Ryder stepped down from the project to star in Edward Scissorhands. Many saw this casting as an act of nepotism, especially when Sofia’s lack of acting ability became obvious and her performance was heavily criticized. However, in spite of that, the film was still nominated for the Best Picture Oscar at the Academy Awards.
