Precious star asks Timberlake to Oscars

Precious star Gabourey Sidibe, 26, has a dilemma most of us wish we had: who should she invite to the Academy Awards? Sidibe was announced this week as one of the Leading Actress nominees for her starring role as an overweight, abused high school student who is pregnant with her second child by her father. During an appearance on eTalk this week she said she’s given the situation some thought. Though she’s been deliberating between Justin Timberlake and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), her number one choice is Timberlake, on whom she’s had a longtime crush. Timberlake read out the Golden Globe nominees last December and Siddibe says just hearing him say her name made her heart flutter. “Oh my God, Justin Timberlake just said my name,” she told People. “I told my roommate, and I literally said, ‘Oh my God, Justin just said my name.” During a television interview with CTV’s etalk, she turned towards the camera and asked him directly, saying: “Justin, if you’re not doing anything on that night, maybe you could be my date or something. JC’s point is that she is chasing a boy that is clearly “out of her league”, but if a guy who was 150 pounds overweight tried to ask out Megan Fox or Jennifer Aniston (for example), what do you think the comments here would be? First off – he likely would not even try…and if he did, I highly doubt too many people would be wishing him good luck either.
I agree with JC and Michael. Also, I don’t think ANY woman, no matter what she looks like or who she is, should be asking a taken man (a man who already has a girlfriend/fiance/wife) on a date. I think the same for the male gender.

Who cares if he’s a taken man, she’s asking him to be her date to the Oscars, not to get married!Many people have taken people who are with other in a relationship to the Oscars it’s not a big deal. She’s a young girl, who is living out a dream come true and she had the courage to ask if he wanted to be her date for the event. You all need to gain some perspective,don’t rag on someone living out their dream. People hear “asked to be date” and they assume it’s has to do with something sexual. Date has many meanings, and the one she is obviously meaning is as friends. Do not hate on those who actually have the courage to do and say what they want to say to make them selves feel happy!
I thought it was sweet and Justin should be flattered. She probably meant it as a joke since Justin is taken. A lot of the comments above are very mean. It’s amazing how truthful and ugly people can be when they don’t have to be accountable for their comments.
I agree with silentbob and Sophinator…I think it was a sweet gesture, not to be blown out of proportion. I also agree that some of the comments are cruel, and to use the word that is being thrown around, superficial.

As for the comment I made, I didn’t even think anything “sexual” about it, silentbob. I specifically said that it doesn’t matter what you look like or who you are, I don’t think anyone should ever ask a taken person on a date. I do however, think Gypsy’s idea of Justin and Jessica both attending with her is a great idea!

Wow. I really think that she’s adorable and obviously talented. I hope Justin goes to the Oscars as her guest, even if she was just joking around. The cruel comments on here are truly the ugly ones. She’s far more interesting and secure in her looks than the losers who feel the need to put her down.
