Simon Cowell predicts Idol winner

By Alexandra Heilbron on May 26, 2010 | 7 Comments

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday, Simon Cowell talked to fellow judge Ellen about who he thinks will win American Idol tonight. “If you’d asked me five or six weeks ago, 100 percent I would have said Crystal [Bowersox]. But now I’ve changed my mind. I think Lee [DeWyze] is going to win,” he said. Cowell, whose last appearance on the show is tonight, said he’s captivated by Lee’s story. “He’s worked in a paint shop. He’s talented. He hasn’t had any real breaks in life, and this has given him a shot, and I like that.” Cowell told Oprah on her show last week that after nine seasons with the show, he’s become bored and wants to move on. He told Ellen: “I am feeling a bit sad because we’re nearly there. But at the same time, do you remember that last three weeks when you were leaving school, and you kind of couldn’t wait to get out? It’s a little bit like that. I’m not being ungrateful. I’ve had a fantastic time, and the show changed my life, but I just kind of knew it was time to do something different.”  74% of Tribute.ca users also think Lee will win. To vote, click here.

My support goes to Lee. I think that he is amazing!! His voice is so rich and soulful. The fact that early on Crystal wanted to quit kind of turned me off of her. Added to the fact that she keeps mentioning her diabetes. Why mention this? It is a competition based on talent not on what people have to deal with. She is a very talented girl so I am stumped as why she did this. I remember when David Cook was also going through problems he did not mention them. The competition should be based on talent not on what is going on in their lives

My support goes to Lee as well. Not because I have anything against Crystal – early on, I thought either she or Siobhan were going to win – but because he has improved so much each week performance-wise and his voice has a really emotional, soulful quality to it.

As for her mentioning the diabetes, I guess it’s just because she was asked about it. Men are different from women – they don’t like to talk about stuff like that, whereas women don’t mind. I think David Cook was just being a guy – sort of embarrassed about his condition and hoping no one would mention it and brushing it off quickly if they did. Anyway, I think they’re both going to have great careers, at least, I hope so because they’re both really talented, but if it came to buying their music, I would probably buy a song of Lee’s before I would buy one by Crystal.

Are you crazy America Crystal has been and always will be the winner she ROCKS and has SOUL she needs her own show, bring back a great singing show let Crystal be the host she could bring on the talent if you would let her.
Not like Jimmy Kimble he does not get to choose the talent he is just the puppet, Crystal stayed true to herself and she deserved to win!!!!

Simon it is a great loss if you leave the show, you really know your stuff or so I thought so before the comment on Ellen, I think as most of America does now that the show was rigged because Crystal was Crystal not someone you could change, and mold into a AIP the only ones I can say stayed true was Kelly and Fantasia.
SIMON you will be missed on the show I will no longer watch!
See one day on Tour In AUSTIN TX CRYSTAL!!!

I am so happy to see LEE win. Crystal can sing but every song she sings sounds the same and she always ends up screaming. She has a little one and her place is close to him. GOOD LUCK LEE. We were actually very much in love with CASEY and we wish him all the best too.

P.S. we all wonder why Crystal wanted to talk to Simon first before his comments on Tuesday – It was like buying a good comment from him ?????? Good Luck Crystal

Is it just me, or does anyone else see Lee as a mini Collin James??

anon, agree wholeheartedly. now, it’s all said and done, I believe the winner was correctly chosen by America this year (after last year’s blunder) btw Chris Allen’s performance incredibly weak on finale…

Lee shone from day one, humble, genuine, unaffected, mega talented. I don’t dispute the talent Bowersox held, just my preference was Lee from day one…

sorry to see Simon go, will be interested who replaces him and the direction the show will take with his absence…
