The Hunger Games sweeps MTV Movie Awards

The odds were definitely in The Hunger Games favor last night as it cleaned house at the MTV Movie Awards. The dystopian blockbuster won four awards at MTV’s annual celebration of mainstream cinema, the most for any nominated movie. Of the 12 categories, The Hunger Games took home Best Fight, Best On-Screen Transformation for Elizabeth Banks enchanting turn as the Capitol’s chipper representative, Effie Trinket and Best Male and Female Performances for Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence respectively. The night also featured a nice peace offering between rival franchises as Twilight’s Kristen Stewart presented Katniss’s fearless portrayer with her award—Lawrence was filming in Prague and could not attend the ceremony. She thanked fans via video message. However, The Hunger Games did not win Best Movie — that went to Twilight: Breaking Dawn—Part 1, which also walked away with a golden popcorn for Best Kiss, while Harry Potter finally got some recognition with the Best Cast and Best Hero awards. One of the night’s brightest moments came when Emma Stone was honored with the MTV Trailblazer Award. The usually wisecracking starlet teared up, urging her fans to blaze their own trails and to embrace their uniqueness. “What sets you apart can feel like a burden and it’s not. A lot of the time it’s what makes you great.” ~Kyle Sharp

Yay for HG! Im still pissed off about Twilight winning Best Movie, since that installment was the absolute worst, but I just have to deal with it and be glad this November we can end that nightmare once and for all. Also, congrats to Emma Stone for her Trailblazer award and Johnny Depp for winning the Generation award. 2 of my favorites getting recognized for their wonderful work. 😀
