University student expelled for watching Glee

Sue Sylvester would not approve. A South Carolina university student has reportedly been expelled for watching the television show Glee. Chris Peterman, a 23-year-old senior at the Christian Bob Jones University was expelled just a week short of graduation after a student caught him watching the Fox musical comedy at a local Starbucks. Shortly after the incident, Peterman was called into the Dean’s office and given 50 demerit points because the show was considered “morally reprehensible” and against the school’s values. “It was because I was watching Glee. If I had been watching basketball, he says that would have been fine,” Peterman told CBS News. Bob Jones University is known for its strict rules that prohibit students from smoking, having sex and even watching television on campus. The rules do not affect off-campus entertainment. The university has released a statement saying that Peterman’s suspension has nothing to do with his television preference — however, they do state that they deem Glee inappropriate for their students. Peterman says he believes his suspension has to do with his political beliefs. He says he began to be harassed by school officials after he started a group called “Do Right BJU” last year to promote sexual abuse awareness on campus. ~Kyle Sharp

Wow, I’m not a fan of the show (hate it SO MUCH), but this isn’t worth kicking out a student. Expell students for REAL CRIMES for once.

I wonder if he can… sue for this.

Why would one want a degree from a place like that in the first place?

There is so much wrong with this that i don’t even know where to begin.

Really?? Over a television show? This guy needs to find a different school to finish his degree because that is just plain stupid.

I agree Reggie, this is a school I would NOT brag about attending.

This is ludicrous. Shame on Bob Jones University (if that is in fact the reason why they expelled him). Who are they to dictate what a person can do in their time off of class, especially off campus. This is reprehensible even if it had occurred on campus.

Good. Everyone who watches it should be arrested or expelled or worse. comment back if you like. I tried my hardest to watch an episode and i felt like hanging myself. Way to be the dumbest show on TV Glee. Here’s another award when you get to quarter-semi-regional finals.

Really? Really?! Stupid stupid stupid school. It was OFF CAMPUS idiots, he was harming noone. He can watch what he wants at Starbucks so dont go suspending him for watching Glee. What next, a kid getting suspended for watching Say Yes To The Dress? Suspend for real crimes not petty little personal choices.
