A native of Melbourne, Australia, Radha Mitchell began acting professionally in theater and television while still in high school. At the age of 15, she landed a regular role as Pixie Robinson on the Australian series Sugar and Spice. Guest appearances on other series, including a recurring role on the international hit Neighbours, were followed by her film debut in Love and Other Catastrophes (1996).
She played the starring role in her next film, High Art (1998), and continued to work steadily in movies until starring opposite Vin Diesel in Pitch Black (2000), which brought her some well-deserved international attention. Roles in several more American films followed, including Dead Heat opposite Kiefer Sutherland and Phone Booth (both 2002) with Colin Farrell. In 2004, Mitchell starred opposite Denzel Washington in Man on Fire, playing the mother of a kidnapped child (Dakota Fanning). For her work in Finding Neverland, she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild ensemble award alongside co-stars Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Freddie Highmore and Dustin Hoffman. She then played the title role in Woody Allen's Melinda and Melinda (2005) opposite Will Ferrell and the starring role as a mother desperately trying to find a cure for her sick daughter in Silent Hill (2006).
A vegetarian, Mitchell has lived in Los Angeles since 1997. She practices yoga in her spare time.
